In Sierra Leone, Nafaya Kabbah Laid to Rest
Alhaji Abdul Rahman Kabbah, popularly known as Nafaya Kabbah, who passed away peacefully on 24th November 2010 at his Elk Street residence in Freetown, has been laid to rest at the Kissy Road Cemetery, following a well attended funeral ceremony held at the Madingo Mosque, Mountain Cut, Freetown. The burial ceremony on Thursday 25th November 2010 attracted several dignitaries from all walks of life and they include former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, erstwhile Minister of Education Science and Technology who doubles as one of the flagbearer aspirants of the SLPP Dr. Alpha Tejan Wurie, former Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources Alhaji Swarray Deen, SLPP flagbearer aspirant Osman Boie Kamara, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, SLPP National Chairman John Oponjo Benjamin, SLPP flagbearer aspirant Momodu Koroma, Publisher Awareness Times Newspaper Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, General Manager African Minerals Moseray Fadika, chiefs of the Mandingoes, Fullahs and Susus, members of the Fullah Town Jammah, United Council of Imams, Fourah Bay Jammah, pupils of Ahymadiyya and Muslim Congress schools, plus several others.

The battle to win the Airtel prizes and tickets has taken an interesting twist as it gains momentum amongst students at the Mokonde Campus of Njala University. On assignment at the University, this reporter witnessed several debates among students, especially with regards the local farmer from Kenema who won the first Airtel ticket to attend the show in Nigeria.

APC Gov’t is Inconsistent Says John Benjamin
National Chairman of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), John Oponjo Benjamin, has said in Freetown that the All People’s Congress (APC) government is inconsistent and economical with the truth. He made this disclosure in a telephone interview with the Awareness Times Newspaper on Thursday 25th November 2010 whilst deliberating on the refusal of the government to heed to an earlier assurance that it was going to denounce the Kono violence.

Tom Nyuma Apologizes to Plan Sierra Leone
The confused Chairman of the Kailahun District Council, Tom Nyuma has swallowed his words and apologized to Plan Sierra Leone for wrongly including their name in his shameful attempt to defend lies as published in a Presidential Book and exposed by Awareness Times newspaper. It could be recalled that on the 17th November 2010, Tom Nyuma’s Kailahun District Council published a paid-for press release (reproduced below on this page) in the pro-APC Torchlight Newspaper in which Nyuma attempted to defend lies that emanated from the APC presidency. The release speaks for itself and has caused many members of the main SLPP opposition party to become even more upset with the actions of Tom Nyuma, a man they had voted into office en masse under the SLPP symbol.

SLPP Women Condemn Kono Violence
The National Women’s Wing of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has strongly condemned the violent attacks against their party supporters and offices, with particular reference to women in Kono last week. In a press briefing summoned on Tuesday 23rd November, 2010 they unequivocally stated that violence and discrimination against women is most unacceptable. “Violence and discrimination against women violate the principles of equality of rights and respect for human dignity, and is an obstacle to the participation of women on equal terms with men, in political, social, economic and cultural life of the country,” Women’s Leader Isata Jabbie Kabbah (IJK) told newsmen.

In Sierra Leone, Parliament Demands Apology from SLPP MPs
A private member motion demanding that members of parliament representing the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) apologize for staging a walkout from parliament has been endorsed by the Sierra Leone Parliament. The motion was moved on Wednesday 24th November, 2010 by Hon. Ibrahim Bundu of the APC and seconded by Hon. Thomas Mansaray of the PMDC.
