In Sierra Leone, New Chairman for Clearing & Forwarding Association
Abdul Akim Bangura of Alie & Santos Clearing and Forwarding Agency was on Saturday 27th November 2010 elected unopposed as chairman of the Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agencies in Sierra Leone. Electoral Commissioner Madam Elma Johnson described the elections as transparent and fair. “Only one candidate surfaced for the chairmanship and he was elected unopposed to serve a term of two years,” she explained.

In Sierra Leone, Geko Boosts Agriculture in Bombali.
Geko-Sierra Leone, a Non Governmental Organization, has recently donated two grater machines, assorted tool kits plus 5.5 acres of cultivated cassava farmland to the people of Rogbin village in the Gbendembu Ngowahun Chiefdom, Bombali District in northern Sierra Leone. In a Four-day training exercise in cassava processing and preservation for beneficiary farmers, Councilor Mamoud Kargbo of the Rogbin Ward in Constituency 033 admonished the participants to embrace such developmental opportunity accorded them by the NGO. He in that vein encouraged them to use the equipments and machinery judiciously.

Airtel Promises Affordable Communications To Sierra Leoneans
Bharti Airtel, the 5th leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa on Friday, November 19, 2010 officially launched their brand in Sierra Leone at the Miatta Conference Center, after taking over the operations of Zain. Bharti Airtel pledged to pump $25 million to expand its operations in Sierra Leone in June this year and has also planned to bring its network of global partners to the country which could result in additional employment opportunity in the country.

In Sierra Leone, Sanpha Koroma Donates Le5M to Harford
The Chief Executive Officer of the Union Trust Bank, Mr. James Sanpha Koroma has, on behalf of his family, last Sunday November 28th 2010, donated the whopping sum of Five Million Leones instantly to the Fundraising efforts of the Harford Old Girls Association (HOGA). The association, which has elected Mrs. Annie Koroma, the wife of Mr. Sanpha Koroma as their new National President, is seeking to raise a lot of money from willing donors in order to take care of the mammoth needs of the school in the wake of the civil war that all but destroyed the school’s infrastructural fabric but certainly not the will and determination of the products of the worthy school located in Southern Sierra Leone.

Today is World Aids Day
Sierra Leone will today Wednesday 1st December 2010 join the rest of the world to commemorate World AIDS Day. Public Relations Officer for the National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) Sierra Leone, Abubakarr Kargbo said they have designed series of events to mark the day. He said the commemoration actually started on the 27th November 2010 and will end tomorrow 2nd December 2010.

The move by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to summon the National Secretary Generals and other representatives of political parties in order to dialogue and chart the way forward for peaceful elections has been widely acclaimed as a step in the right direction. IGP Francis Allieu Munu on Tuesday 30th November 2010 invited and met the All People’s Congress (APC) party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), the People’s Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC), the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Revolutionary United Front Party (RUFP), at the conference hall of the Police Headquarters, George Street in Freetown, and in attendance included Assistant Inspector Generals of Police (AIGs) and other senior officers.

It is currently a tough time for female staff working at the Schulenburg headed United Nations office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) as some are being psychologically harangued over who leaked secret Coded Cables from UNIPSIL to Awareness Times news Publisher Sylvia Olayinka Blyden. The developing situation has now been dubbed in diplomatic circles as Sierra Leone’s ‘Wikileaks’ Saga. It can be recalled that the Awareness Times Publisher is currently in possession of top-secret Coded Cables sent over the last one year from UNIPSIL to UN Headquarters in New York in which terrible lies against certain Sierra Leonean citizens are included therein; in order to mislead the United Nations.
