APC all set to lose Tonko Limba if…
The Awareness Times investigative team has learnt that there is growing discontent among members of the All People’s Congress (APC) party over who should be the party’s candidate in the forthcoming local council bye-election to be held in the Tonko Limba Chiefdom, Kambia District. The people of Kamasasa village told the Awareness Times investigators on the ground that the Minister of Internal Affairs, Local Government and Rural Development, Dauda Kamara, is interfering and manipulating the electoral process in that part of the country.

President Koroma Ropes SLPP MP?
One of former President Siaka Stevens’s tactics which enabled him to hold the whole of Sierra Leone to ransom has been seemingly adopted by current President Ernest Koroma, which is the luring of opposition members of Parliament to jumping ship. His latest captive in the wake up of disclosures of having through surreptitious means arrested the heart and mind of Tom Nyuma is said to be the Honourable Borbor Sawyer of Constituency 04 in the Kailahun District, who sources close to the President intimate, he intends to appoint as Deputy Minister of Works and Infrastructure.

In Sierra Leone, UBA Launches New Product
United Bank Africa (UBA) has officially launched a new product dubbed AfriCash at an auspicious occasion held on Friday 26th November 2010 at the British Council Hall, Tower Hill in Freetown. In attendance at the all-important launch include the Ghana High Commissioner, Mrs. Elizabeth Mills-Robertson and the Minister of Trade and Industry, David Carew, who formally launched the product. AfriCash facilitates instant money transfer services, payments, remittances and trade across Africa.

In Sierra Leone, NCP Concludes Concessioning of the SLPA Container Activities with French Company Bollore
Following several months of contract negotiations with the preferred bidder, National Commission for Privatization (NCP), on Thursday 25th November 2010, signed the Ports Concession Agreement with French Company Bollore. This was done in the presence of all stakeholders including members of the media. The Concession relates to the Container Terminal activities around the specific demarcated concession area only for a period of 20 years. This would also allow the Government of Sierra Leone to develop other areas of the Freetown Ports in the future. The Concessionaire will be named “Freetown Terminal Limited”

In Sierra Leone, 66 Year Old Man Wins 50 Million from State Lottery
One Mr. Ingham O. Peters, 66, on Friday 26th November 2010, received a cheque of fifty million eight hundred thousand leones (Le50,800,000) from the Sierra Leone State Lottery. The management of the Sierra Leone State Lottery escorted Mr. Peters to State House where his cheque was officially given to him by His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

Thirty five senior captains of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) have graduated at Horton Academy after successfully completing a three-month intermediate staff course as one of the criteria for promotion to the rank of Major. The graduation ceremony was held on Thursday 25th November 2010.

In Sierra Leone, ACC, Students Sign MOU
Students from various learning institutions in the country, under the Accountability Now Clubs (ANC) umbrella, on Friday 26th November 2010, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the country’s anti-graft institution, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). President of Accountability Now Clubs, Issac Andrew Bangura said students have learnt that corruption gravely affects development, thus the formation of the ANC with an objective to partner with the ACC and other relevant stakeholders in the fight against corruption.
