APC Wins Kono District Council Election
Chief Electoral Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Dr. Christiana Thorpe has declared APC’s Diana Konomanyi as winner of the Kono District Council Chairmanship election. The announcement of the final certified result was done on Tuesday 14th December 2010.

In Sierra Leone, 500,000 Fine or 3 Months Imprisonment for Rioters
Magistrate Josiah O. Wellington has handed down sentence on twenty four (24) convicts who pleaded guilty of ten count charges ranging from riotous conduct to possession of offensive weapons. Morlai Kamara, Saidu Kamara, Abdul Rahman Mansaray, Mohamed Konneh, Amadu Barrie, Alpha Kamara, David Mansaray and seventeen others, were amongst seventy eights (78) youths arrested by police on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December 2010 during deadly riots in Freetown.

In Sierra Leone, Soja, Two Others Freed on Bail
A personnel of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) and two others, who were remanded at the Pademba Road prisons on accusations of threatening the Director of Open Government Initiative (OGI), have been freed on bail. RSLAF’s Kerefa Tarawallie, Kelfala Conteh and Musa Conteh made their second appearance before Magistrate Josiah Wellington on Tuesday 14th December 2010 to answer to five count charges of assault, threatening remarks, public insult, provocation and disorderly behaviour.

In Sierra Leone, Customers Commend UBA Jogging
Customers of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) have commended the ‘jogging to bond exercise’ which was organized by the bank for its staff and loyal customers on Saturday 11th December 2010. After the jugging exercise, a UBA customer, who identified himself as Mr. Mohamed B. Freeman, Managing Director Life Haulage Service, commended management and staff of the UBA for such a brilliant idea. He said the exercise will significantly help in the direction of staff unity.

Sierra Leone’s leading telecommunication company, Airtel, on Friday 10th December 2010, launched a new promotion dubbed: ‘Airtel Surprise’. The end of year promotion launch took place at the company’s Wilberforce Headquarters in Freetown. Airtel’s Abdul Latif Sesay said the promotion was a special gift to the numerous subscribers of Airtel, adding that it will continue until 28th January 2011.

In Sierra Leone, Minister Orders Arrest of Four Journalists
Freetown have been arrested by police on the orders of the newly appointed Minister of Lands, Allieu Pat Sowe, a press release issued by the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) on Monday 13th December 2010 informed. The four are Abdul Rahman Kamara of Torchlight, Razrok Wurie of Satellite, Sheik Unisa Thoronka of Global Times and Alfred Koroma of African Champion.

In Sierra Leone, Government Bans Musical Activities ..…78 Rioters Dragged to Court
The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Internal Affairs, has placed a ban on all musical activities including assembly, rallies and album launchings. This ban came in the wake of riotous conducts of youths supporting various musicians in the country. The Government of Sierra Leone expressed grave concerns over the skirmishes that took place in Freetown on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December 2010 and made clear that it was not going to condone acts of violence.
