The Alpha & Omega of 2007 High Court Rules
Following the legal sparring by Lawyers last week in Court, many of our readers have asked Awareness Times about High Court Rules. We have done some research and found out that all Judges of Sierra Leone Law Courts are bound to carry out their work according to certain laid down rules set by a special committee known as the Rules of Court Committee. So it was that in May 2007, the Rules of Court Committee published the current set of High Court Rules, within the confines of which, all Judges must restrict themselves when carrying out their sacred duties.

A High Court Ruling by Hon. Mr. Justice Samuel Ademusu, J.A.
The important points which lies at the heart of this ruling is whether the Notice of Motion filed and served by Yada Williams and Associates on behalf of the accused is properly before the court. C.T. Mantsebo of Counsel for prosecution has strongly objected to the application being entertained on the grounds that it is not properly before this court and contending that no legal foundation either on common law or statute allows it. That the Order which they are seeking to set aside is the Order of Hon. Mr. Justice N.C. Browne-Marke, J.A. made in accordance with the provisions of Section 132 (5) of the Sierra Leone Constitution Act No. 6 of 1991.

Common Sense or Common Nonsense?
When the negative propaganda was going on in Sierra Leone by both nationals of the country and foreigners that were sent to specifically further destroy the country, some patriotic people who knew about the plan passed it on to the authorities concerned. At that time, the then SLPP pushed these people away, if not very far but at arms length. They described it then as a scary, alarming and peace threatening information. On the contrary, it was truly genuine information and some was brought to the public through the media. Plenty of times it was put on newspapers that some international organizations have been specifically appointed as diplomatic employees to the country for the specific reason of changing our government. The line of action was that all efforts should be made to remove the government with no regard of its popularity.

SLPPs New Admiring 'Free Advisers' should not be too quickly trusted
No Political Party turns away offers to be provided with advise or strategies but when certain journalists who are rabidly notorious for doing everything possible to shore up the APC and destroy the image of the SLPP, suddenly turn themselves into the free advisers for the SLPP, one can only warn to beware of the Trojan horses. The SLPP Chairman has shown he has more foresight than misguided others who allowed themselves to be fooled without first seeing contents of Tejan-Coles resignation.

Free Medical Services: Good Game But Poor Results
So much for the free medical services being offered to pregnant, lactating mothers and under five children. So much for the salary that was top-upped for health care service providers for this new health intervention. So much for the hue and cry at least for now. The most important and prudent question now to ask is: Will this free health care service offered nationwide be practical and sustainable in the long run?

QUOTABLE QUOTES
However, despite her displeasure with Mr. Fofanas refusal to retract the false broadcast against her person, sources close to the indicted former Minister inform Awareness Times that upon hearing the news last evening, she expressed "deep concern" over the report of such threats being allegedly made on a journalist and has totally distanced herself from such. "If it is true then it must be condemned.

If Abdul Tejan-Cole is a honourable man - Culled from Our Archives for April 2010, lest we forget!
When I read last Friday I had been collecting ten million leones monthly from a supposed Government Fisheries Project, as a citizen, I hung my head at paucity of integrity emanating from our ACC... Yes, if I were Abdul Tejan-Cole, I would have resigned from the ACC by now but I am not Abdul. My name is Sylvia Olayinka Blyden. As for those innuendoes and misdirected allegations, let me just recall here the adage that Creole Churches have various pews for seating and sometimes you might be in the right church but wrong pew. It looks like someone has entered the wrong pew and wants me to direct him/her to where he/she should be seated. It will be my pleasure! Na Ten Million Leones Normor? (suck teeth!).

John Benjamin & a Political Midget known as Sorie Fofana
It was Elections Day of 2007 and journalist Mohamed Daudis Koroma was up in Tonkolili District, his home district and also the district of the then SLPP Presidential Running-mate, Momodu Koroma. Mohamed Daudis, my good friend knew I had been supporting the SLPPs Solomon Berewa against his own candidate, the current President Ernest Koroma but Daudis would always assure me that the SLPP was going to be beaten at the polls. That morning Daudis and I were speaking over the phone and he laughed heartily and recounted to me how he could see Sorie Fofana and Momodu Koroma seated on a veranda at Mile 91 drinking tea and listening to the BBC like white colonialists lording it over the locals.

Mohamed Daudis Koroma: A Tonkolili Friend & Brother
One of the most powerful propagandists in Sierra Leone of this century is little hailed for his propaganda skills but I find him to be within the topmost tiers of political strategists and barefaced propagandists that Sierra Leone has ever produced. This man, in my view, was mostly responsible for taking the then-opposition APCs message through his African Champion newspaper to the masses. He would skilfully, with barefaced cheek, deploy headlines written in Creole; meant to capture and convert the hearts of the largely northern province originated immigrants in Freetown. Whilst some people give credit to We Yone, Standard Times and Peep magazine, I have always given credit to this man for being the brains that effectively propagated the image of Ernest Bai Koroma prior to September 2007.

Abdul Tejan-Coles Honour & Poetic Justice of Effects of his Resignation
Tejan-Cole has showed President Ernest Koroma that although the APC has 99 tactics, he has the 100th and most potent tactic and by the time President Koroma will know what hit him, I.B. Kargbo will find it is too late for him to retract those great confidence in Tejan-Cole words. Ha ha ha! The irony is so sweet! Ha ha ha! But still on my speculations; since Tejan-Cole is such a clever character, he might see value in coming to the aid of Mr. President which is why I believe those persons hastily jumping to assert, on his behalf, that he resigned because of frustration with Mr. Presidents APC are making a serious mis-calculation. What will they say or do if Tejan-Cole, in a short while down the road, gives out an interview in which he debunks them and says he was never interfered with nor frustrated in his job but that he resigned for personal family & financial benefits? Aha! Step cautiously guys!

WE TODAY REPRODUCE OUR APRIL 13 ARTICLE ON HOW ABDUL TEJAN-COLE & ZAINAB BANGURA PLOT TO MISLEAD THE WORLD THAT UNDER PRESIDENT KOROMA, CORRUPTION IS BEING FOUGHT IN AN UNPRECEDENTED MANNER.
Schulenburg might also be ignorant of the contents of certain select files hiding safely away at the Abdul Tejan Cole led ACC such as the file with document reference DOC/IF/2008/006 (more on this if need be!!!). This can be the only reason why Schulenburg teamed up with Zainab Bangura to heap such UNDESERVED praises on President Koroma in New York few days ago as if the conviction and/or indictment of Cabinet Ministers are unprecedented developments in this country. Shame; Shame; Shame on you Mr. Schulenburg!! ...However, one of the main problems facing this country for now is that between Zainab Banguras intertwined relationship with Transparency International through her National Accountability Group (NAG) and with International Center for Transitional Justice through her protg, the ACCs Abdul Tejan Cole, we have data highly suspected of being skewed, now sent out to the world about how corruption & transitional justice indices are improving in the country. Hogwash!!... Read full details by clicking the link below:

Tony Blair Debacle: How Not to Discuss Issues
It is becoming increasingly clear that whenever Awareness Times publishes an article critical of the APC government, journalists supporting the government emerge from the wood works not to refute the criticisms with facts, but to attack the publisher of the newspaper whether or not she wrote the articles. Almost all APC leaning journalists are guilty of making up stories about Dr Blydens personal life, casting aspersions on her qualifications or attacking her family. What is more nauseating, these journalists accuse Dr Blyden as pseudo-journalist, yellow journalist or what have you. What is clear in my opinion is that these folks are guilty of the very accusation they make about Dr Blyden.

Dr. Sylvia O. Blyden Has Too Much Self-Confidence To Be Intimidated!
Contrary to the claim in a recent obscure attack on my character in the media, my two grandfathers are both still very much alive. My paternal grandfather, Professor Edward Wilmot Blyden III is still alive and residing at his residence at Smart Farm, Off Wilkinson Road here in Freetown. My maternal grandfather, Professor Solomon Athanasius James Pratt (commonly known as SAJ Pratt) is also still alive. I spoke to him yesterday in London where he resides and he had just flown back into London from attending an important Masonic Lodge meeting in Paris, France.

Mr. Blair, Lets Just Tell Sierra Leone It is a Charitable Business!
...we have decided to make life simpler for Mr. Tony Blair and try to explain on his behalf that now he is out of office as Prime Minister, he is engaging in the business of charity. After all, there are many ways to make money even within the business of charity! Mr. Tony Blair is currently engaged in the profit-making business of charity. This is why the money from Bill Gates' charity meant "to prevent and relieve poverty in Sierra Leone" as well as "to promote peace, economic growth and sustainable growth" in Sierra Leone, was paid into Tony Blairs for-profit Windrush No. 3 Ltd company and not to the non-profit African Governance Initiative. We truly hope that perplexed Sierra Leoneans will now understand that it is all just a very charitable business! Period!

Neya Chiefdom like many other places may lose out of the Free Healthcare Programme
Neya Chiefdom in the Koinadugu district like many other areas of the country will not benefit from Governments prophesied free healthcare programme that was supposedly launched yesterday 27th April 2010 as the country marked 49 years of independence. This is obvious because of the history of neglect that chiefdom has suffered in the hands of past governments and even the present one.

Celebrating the Queens Birthday with British Funded Human Rights Abuse?
I almost made a decision to pack my bags and abandon this land that I love so much when Hon. Justice Browne-Marke gave that leave on file ruling! An interesting ruling which I must say Jonathan Leigh of the Independent Observer newspaper has very adequately dealt with. However, I wonder what British taxpayers like Mendelle will say if they ever learn that their hard-earned tax is being used to finance a ceaseless series of Trials By Judge alone in this country? I wonder what British taxpayers will say if they ever were to learn that their hard-earned tax is being used to browbeat and detain civil servants in police cells for four days without access to legal counsel? I wonder what British taxpayers will say if they ever learn that their hard-earned tax is being used to finance police officers conducting armed early morning raids on a citizens residence merely to invite her husband and children to a British-funded investigation?

Crucifixions In Battle Against Corruption
There can be no denial of the fact that corruption is significantly responsible for the socio-economic malaise that this nation was plunged into several years. Every sober minded Sierra Leonean will readily agree that curbing corruption in both the public and private sector is an essential step forward in our collective determination to right the wrongs of the past. Past regimes lack of political will to tackle the issue of graft in the conduct of public and private affairs was evident in the now opposition partys reluctance, while in governance, to amend the Anti Corruption Act 2000 and give the ACC prosecutorial powers without having reason for a recourse to the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

Full Salute for Political Party Foot Soldiers!
Over the Easter Break, I found time to visit with one of my favourite people, former President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah. His wife, Isatu Kabbah (IJK) the current Womens Leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) had just returned from a trip out of Freetown to Kambia District where she had gone with loyal party supporters to spread SLPPs message. The SLPP loyalists on arrival looked tired, haggard and covered in dusty sweat. One thing came across to me distinctly whilst I was observing them and that was their deep commitment to SLPP.

One of Sierra Leones longest serving career diplomats who is a Positive Female Role Model to many upcoming Sierra Leonean women, today reaches a milestone age:- 80 years old. Ambassador Mrs. Famah Joka-Bangura was one of the selected few African women appointed as Ambassadors representing their countries after Independence.
