Beware of the “Ides of March” Mr. President
The meaning of the phrase: "Ides of March," was derived from the ancient Roman calendar. It means the fifteenth day of March. For those of us who were fortunate to read the book titled "Julius Caesar" in our Junior Secondary School stages could recall that the lead character in that book (Julius Caesar) was cautioned by Sinnah the Poet to "Beware of the Ides of March". True to the warning of the Poet which Caesar dismissed as frivolous, the latter was brutally murdered in cold blood on the 15th of March.

President Ernest Koroma is Unserious to fight Corruption in Sierra Leone
Many Sierra Leoneans will recall that the erstwhile Kabbah-led SLPP Government had, fourteen years ago, discovered that Madam Lilian Lisk of Okeky Fishing Agency was a criminal fish thief and charged her to court in 1996 for this criminal penchant of hers. Lisk had then plea-bargained using some senior lawyers as her counsel; some of these her counsel eventually went on to sit on the Judiciary & at least one is still on the Bench. Lisk had also made a written undertaking to pay restitution for her nefarious theft of the people of Sierra Leone in an amount running into hundreds and hundreds and thousands and thousands of dollars which she reportedly paid as punishment for stealing the country’s fish from the poor people of this land. Lilian Lisk also openly promised not to ever resort to her nefarious fish-thieving, criminal activities ever again.

Is ACC’s Bashiru Konneh a Double Agent??
Curious Information now on the desk of this newspaper indicates that one of the Leading Investigators of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) currently assigned to the ongoing controversial investigation of Hon. Haja Afsatu Kabba, Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources, might be nothing other than a Double Agent seeking the interests of the shady FISH MAFIA in the country whilst using the ACC as a tool for the FISH MAFIA to deal with the country’s dynamic female Fisheries Minister. The 16th February 2010 Section 53(1) Notice served by Abdul Tejan Cole on Hon. Afsatu Kabba, listed down the names of Franklyn Campbell, Bashiru Konneh and Evelyn Walker as the three investigators assigned by ACC to the investigation.

Did Abdul Tejan-Cole Abuse Section 63(1)? : Reproduced to Educate Global Times
It has been said over National Radio and I will write it down again today for Posterity that it is an utter DISGRACE for the Abdul Tejan-Cole led Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) to continue to keep sealed lips over the controversy that has brewed since local journalists, contrary to Section 74(1)(b) of the Anti Corruption Act [2008] were leaked the information that the country’s Fisheries Minister had been invited in for questioning by the Anti Corruption Commission. The silence, when juxtaposed to the recent serious leakages from within the ACC to media houses, is a cause for concern to patriotic Sierra Leoneans who understand the need for an ACC manned by persons of Integrity and Accountability.

In Sierra Leone, Mr. Dauda Kallon & the Anti-Corruption Saga: When a Section of Local Media Chooses to be Deceptive
The importance of the role of the Press in investigating, compiling and disseminating information cannot be over-emphasized. Media practitioners are tasked with the responsibility of informing the people on public interest issues with all fairness. In cases where media practitioners choose the wrong path of being deceptive rather than being objective, it spells doom for society and posterity will be very unkind to such practitioners.

Sierra Leone Association of Journalists Wants Presidential Intervention against APC Minister Moijue Kaikai
Mr. Umaru Fofana, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists and Mr. Ransford Wright, the Coordinator, Independent Radio Network have jointly signed a letter to President Koroma in which they craved his indulgence to protect the well-being of Mr. Melvin Rogers, one of the leading journalists in Sierra Leone but who is alleged to have been threatened with death by Mr. Moijue Kaikai, Deputy Minister of Labour. Kaikai is also reported to have caused psychological trauma to the mother of Melvin Rogers through telephone calls he puts to her.

If Gloria Newman-Smart Is Dead, Then… : By Jarrah Kawusu-Konte (First Published in The Exclusive Newspaper of 17th October 2005)
When I first met the late Mrs. Gloria Newman Smart, erstwhile Chief Immigration Officer at her office mid this year, I had the impression that she was actually a victim of circumstances. The discussion we had revealed her situation as an embattled woman who was in want of audience.

Youths Will Salute Where Sierra Leone's President Fails BUT...
I have to confess that sometimes I do feel sorry for our President and believe it or not, there is not a single daily prayer I make in which I do not include him in the list of people I ask God to guide and protect in his duties. It must be difficult balancing the act of accommodating the views of various interests groups without hurting one over another. Just take a look at the ridiculous pressure the President had faced from a few misguided souls who wish to browbeat him into relieving Afsatu Kabba, his hardworking Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources of her duties. President Koroma has, rightfully ...

A Sierra Leone Opinion: Tony Blair Is Corrupt?
One point used to educate a critic of President Koroma who believed President should have removed Afsatu Kabba from office simply because she was called in for questioning was the fact that former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whilst he was in office, was called in for questioning over corruption allegations; only for him to be cleared. So, Allegations do not mean Culpability! Infact, Tony Blair’s scenario saw even worse things written about him and his alleged corruption in office than that now being written about Afsatu Kabba. Fact! And of course, we all recall how Jacob Zuma was hounded for corruption in a political vendetta only for him to be cleared and eventually become President of South Africa.

Anti Corruption's Morlai Buya Kamara Gets Defended in Sierra Leone
In the spirit of "Right to Reply", our Editorial Board is today reproducing an article we culled from New Citizen paper about Deputy Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission Mr. Morlai Buya Kamara. It will be recalled that a few weeks back, we had run an article we culled from the SLPP’s Unity paper which had asked for the air to be cleared over allegations of impropriety and corruption that Buya Kamara was alleged to have been involved in at the country's GLOBAL FUND.

Of Decrees & Orders
I had no oversight in the production of yesterday’s Awareness Times where my team heaped praises on President Koroma’s efforts to combat corruption in the country. H.E. President’s hands-on approach to this important fight is laudable. If indeed allegations are proven to be cogent, then he deserves a thumbs-up.

Mr. President, Dont You Think NRA’s Allieu Sesay Should Be Reinstated?
It was quite emotional to behold the frustration that was written all over the face of President Ernest Bai Koroma whilst revealing that corruption is still thriving in the country despite his warnings. The President’s fight against corruption has proved to be an enormous task more especially when it has become a public secret that government officials connive with foreigners to loot the country of billions of Leones. The National Revenue Authority (NRA) is the first to fall into Ernest Koroma’s trap. Several serious minded citizens including Dr. Sylvia Blyden had insisted that NRA’s Allieu was victimized in order to grant the leeway for corrupt individuals to thrive unabated. Mr. President, now that it is evident that Allieu Sesay’s removal from the NRA was just a ploy by corrupt individuals, don’t you think it’s high time you reinstate the relieved Commissioner General?

QUESTIONING AGAIN: Did Abdul Tejan-Cole Abuse Section 63(1) of the ACC Act?
To the layman, asking for Sureties and Passports is synonymous with an Arrest and arrest is synonymous with culpability of a Crime. Infact, had it not been for the strong stance taken by the Editorial Board of this newspaper to smash the shameful Conspiracy to molest and defame Afsatu Kabba, it might have been a different scenario altogether for the poor harrassed female minister. Advising My President
This piece is not intended at advising President Ernest Bai Koroma of the Republic of Sierra Leone since he already has a battery of advisers (though they have so far proved not impressive as evident in the current state of affairs in Sierra Leone). My advice in this piece would be directed to the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ); an association of which I have been a proud registered and paid-up member for the past two to three years.

My Brother Umaru Fofana & Section 74 of the ACC Act of 2008
...What I am trying to say and what the quoted Sections means is that the broadcast by Umaru Fofana over the BBC of last Wednesday and which the BBC's Hassan Arouni has strangely found no qualms in repeating over and over again on Saturday 20th February 2010, is a Criminal Act according to the Laws of Sierra Leone. Umaru Fofana, by revealing that Hon. Afsatu Kabba is being investigated for alleged acts of corruption when the ACC did not give him the authority to do so, has committed a criminal offence for which he could get thrown in jail for next 12 months. No Joke! Add to the above criminal offence is the aspect of Criminal & Defamatory Libel looming in his face and as a sister, I am worried for him.

Did Abdul Tejan-Cole Abuse Section 63(1) of Sierra Leone's Corruption Act?
The question now that Abdul Tejan-Cole needs to answer and answer quickly in the public domain is why he executed a Section 63(1) Notice. Did he know that he could not arrest Haja Afsatu Kabba based on the flimsy nature of the allegations but he wanted to please certain persons and so he abused his powers with a Section 63(1) Notice solely to embarrass the Minister? Even if Commissioner Abdul Tejan-Cole is absent from town, the Anti Corruption Commission needs to explain to the public! WHY WAS A SECTION 63(1) NOTICE ISSUED ON HON. AFSATU KABBA?

Who Hoaxed BBC News from Sierra Leone?
If I had not listened to it myself, I would not have believed it!! Senior journalist and President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Mr. Umaru Fofana of the BBC allowed himself to be hoaxed into perpetuating a sullying of the reputation of Hon. Minister Afsatu Kabba with his last Wednesday broadcast alleging that "sources" told him Afsatu Kabba had been arrested that morning. It was utter rubbish. Afsatu Kabba was not arrested and as a matter of fact, she cannot be arrested on flimsy allegations! An arrest is made when a crime is commited.

Did Lilian Lisk Say This?
Of worthy note in the ongoing FISH MAFIA versus AFSATU KABBA saga is that one tabloid operated from offices of Madam Arabella Foray published a Wednesday interview mocking Hon. Afsatu Kabba. In the interview, Madam Lilian Lisk, a leading Fish Agent in the country lamented that each of her 18 boats was losing seven and a half million dollars a day because of the patriotic stance taken by Afsatu Kabba to reform the Fisheries sector. It is not clear if Income Tax was ever being calculated on the stated $7,500,000 daily per boat [$7.5m X 18 = $135,000,000 DAILY] as confessed to Arabella’s associated newspaper, the Global Sovereignty.
