Thumbs Up for Jonathan Leigh!
It was Jonathan Leigh the veteran journalist who first told the world that I was a rising star to be watched. It was June 1994 and I had just set a record in Sierra Leone by becoming the first woman to be elected as President of a University of Sierra Leone Students’ Union body. Naturally, I was being feted on the front pages of all the local tabloids. Jonathan was then working at the Concord Times and he brought out a poignant piece which I appreciated more than all other articles.

President Koroma is not the State
Bottom-line, whilst I gratefully appreciate President Ernest Bai Koroma granting forgiveness on a personal level to a friend who offended him, what I will NOT want anyone to make a mistake on, is the fact that the Government has no business forgiving me of anything. I did not offend the Government of Sierra Leone. On the contrary, it is Government operators who have seriously offended me with their abuse of State resources to settle scores on behalf of the President when the President is not the State nor is the State synonymous with the President.

At Last, Agriculture Ministry In Revolution Mode
Farmers all over the country would no doubt have heard the good news about government’s very serious intention through the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS), to change the situation of farmers from mere subsistence farming to large scale cultivation of crops. This is the best development that could happen to our farmers in recent time!

2009 Under Review: An Agenda for Change or Continuity?
2009 was remarkable in a few respect but uneventful and a continuation of the old ways in many. The year saw the unveiling of Government’s policy paper: An Agenda for Change: Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper 2 which stresses on alleviating the now redundant issue of poverty reduction by giving priority to energy, agriculture and infrastructure in the absence of a firm commitment and roadmap that will attract investment in these areas. Another milestone was an investment forum that showcased Sierra Leone as an investment destination in London and the pledges we all hope will come to fruition.

Government Forgives Sylvia Blyden – A REJOINDER (Tell the APC to bless Makalay Koroma)
If anyone thinks they have a case against me, let them take me to court but let them not waste time with ceaseless adjournments. Let them take the witness stand, get sworn on the Holy Bible and publicly testify under oath as to what they know that makes my publication to fall under publication of false news!!! First of all, as an advocate of Sierra Leone’s criminal libel laws, I do know that truth is not a justification for a defamatory publication but I also know that under those very same laws, public interest is certainly an overarching justification for exposing someone truthfully even if it hurts the person’s value in the estimation of the public.

The Upcoming Memoirs of The Doyen of Krio Politicians: S.A.J. Pratt’s Political Legacy!
Following recent press publications that a "soon to be published" memoir of Hon. S.A.J Pratt was imminent, I have since remained cautiously hopeful that just by its publication, one critical disservice by most of Sierra Leone’s politicians to our nation is at last being put to pasture.

Which One Is Worse?
Not only was the following call for a retraction ignored by the offending Publisher but the Co-Publisher, a sister of a certain woman, was AFTERWARDS sent to America by the Government of Sierra Leone as a Sierra Leonean Diplomat!!! The Ernest Koroma Government obviously saw nothing wrong with such self-disrespecting stance but went chasing after Sylvia Blyden whose article (SEE PAGE 5) published subsequently, had restored the credibility of our President’s marriage in the Public eye! So, which one is worse? Writing that the President, an African man, has an extra-marital sweetheart posing as his wife or writing that President doesn’t sleep with wife nor eat food she cooks? Hmmm?

An Efficient Press Secretary is a Student of Rt. Hon. Hilary Armstrong
I must insert here that Johnson-Sirleaf’s Press Secretary, Cyrus W. Badio is one of the best in West Africa. That guy is superb! One fine day, President Koroma will get a Press Secretary like the one Johnson-Sirleaf has and like the one his wife, the First Lady has currently for herself. Writing good English is not the most important quality for a Press Secretary. It is not even amongst the top three qualities. What are these three qualities? Someone should ask First Lady Sia Koroma’s Press Secretary!!

THE NEED FOR A NATIONAL AGENDA FOR CHANGE
One of the foremost writers of the world William Shakespeare noted in one of his popular plays that the time of life is short and to spend that baselessly will be worthless. What Shakespeare succinctly expressed was that people should take advantage of time by making full use of it. This was because time, once lost would hardly be regained. This is what I intend to take up with the entire membership of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) whose reckless handling of vital issues resulted into once more entrusting precious political power into the ruthless and utterly corrupt hands of the ruling All Peoples Congress Party (APC).

GST: You’ll Never Walk Alone!
The Goods and Services Tax otherwise known as the (GST) kicked off Saturday, January 1st, 2010 as promised by President Ernest Bai Koroma; but not without raising a whirlwind of controversy across the country.

Sierra Leone’s Economic Performance – 2009 In Review: ‘Is there something to write home about?’
As Sierra Leoneans across the country look back on 2009, not only will they remember the devastating impact of the global economic downturn, but the government’s ‘seemingly’ lack of imagination in taking the necessary bold steps that could have cushioned the poorest in society against the effects of rising prices, food shortages, depleting foreign reserves, declining export and domestic tax revenues, and the devaluation of the Leone against the Dollar.
