As Shameless Old Journalist Collects Cash from DFID: Patriotic Alieu Sesay Not Yet Questioned by ACC
Sources close to the suspended Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) have confirmed to this medium that he is yet to be invited by the Anti Corruption Commission for questioning despite him having been relieved of his duties for two whole months now. The patriotic Alieu Sesay is thus languishing in limbo even as his good name and hard-won reputation is being shredded by his detractors including one shameless old journalist who regularly collected money from DFID.

A Special Tribute to the Late Rt. Hon. Dr. Salia Jusu-Sheriff
I like to enjoin the many friends and well-wishers at home and abroad who have made glowing tributes to one of Sierra Leone’s finest public servants of the 20th century. I am very proud to have known him at both private and political levels for the last twenty five years. He was the President of Sierra Leone, who was never was. He represented the hopes, thoughts and aspirations of many people of this country. And given the quality of leadership thus far, surely destiny has not served Sierra Leone well.

Four Years Later...: Where Has Ernest Koroma Gone To?
Four years ago, in answer to a request by Osman F. Yansaneh (former APC Secretary-General now High Commissioner to Ghana) and William J. Smith (former APC Newspaper Editor now Resident Minister, Eastern Province), this press had cause in February 2006 to compile information from these two gentlemen which we were to publish worldwide as a Profile of Sierra Leone’s then Opposition leader, Hon. Ernest Bai Koroma. That February 2006 piece I penned down became the worldwide de-facto Biography of our current dear President and aside a few changes here and there, it is still the official Biography he uses.

Flashback : Our Profile of Ernest Koroma As Published on 17th February 2006
Honourable Ernest Bai Koroma, the Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), is considered by his numerous followers all around Sierra Leone and in the Diaspora as The Hope of the Future. Born October 2nd 1953 of APC pedigree in Makeni, Bombali District, Northern Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma attended the Sierra Leone Church primary School, Government Secondary School (Boys) Magburaka and Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. He graduated in 1976 from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone following which he taught at the St. Francis Secondary School in Makeni before joining the Sierra Leone National Insurance Company in 1978.

Tribute To Late Salia Jusu-Sheriff : Maada Salia Jusu-Sheriff, a humble civil servant to a celebrated politician and statesman:
Other than knowledge by description, as philosophers are accustomed to saying, I cannot presume to know much about Maada Salia Jusu-Sheriff prior to my personal encounter with him in 1965 when he was the Hon. Minister of Education and was introduced to him by Mr. William J Conton, the then Chief Education Officer (CEO) at New England Ville and later by Mr. Jerry E O Jones the then Permanent Secretary in the same Ministry.I cannot even remember what was my title in that Ministry other than my assignment to collect schools statistics for the CEO while awaiting an appointment into the Civil Service as on Administrative Officer Cadet.

A TRIBUTE FROM PETER L. TUCKER
Salia Jusu-Sheriff was a dependable friend, a considerate man, and a man of courage and sound judgment. As a Minister in the SLPP Government, he was popular and widely regarded as the most competent Minister with high level of integrity, the only politician I know who gave financial assistance to the man who was put up to contest against him in an election. In the difficult days following the 1967 elections the SLPP was leaderless and in danger of disintegration.

Remembering Salia Jusu-Sheriff
I first met Salia Jusu Sheriff in the mid-1960s when he was a Minister and we soon became good friends. I traveled with him when he campaigned in his district during the elections of 1967, and saw him regularly after that until the coup in 1992. He was a wonderful debater in Parliament in an era when Parliamentary debates were exciting and the galleries constantly full. He was an erudite and thoughtful speaker who always had something interesting to say.

As they learn from the watermelon experience…: Human Chameleons Practised ‘Cormuel Politics’ In Kailahun
Speaking in Kailahun during the visit of President Koroma in that part of the country, Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) former Ambassador to Liberia, Patrick Foya cautioned the President and the All People’s Congress (APC) party that the red dresses of residents should not be misrepresented to mean that the SLPP supporters have converted themselves to become APC supporters.

WHO IS FOOLING WHO?
While I absolutely admire the candour of HE the President conceding unbridled corruption within his government and acknowledging the active participation of functionaries in his administration in this scam, to the knowledge and collusion of institutional heads including the law enforcement agencies; I am also both incensed and stunned that such an important issue that threatens both our economy and the security and prosperity of our state, can be dismissed with just a final admonition that future culprits will face the full penalty of the law.

As Commonwealth Secretary General visits Sierra Leone…time for Youth to put their case across.
Let us be quite clear about this, that President Koroma and his government will be bombarding the Secretary General, with well-worded statements about government achievements, with its most popular slogan ’Agenda for Change’. My question is: where will the youth be to put their case across? I believe the Secretary General’s visit will mean nothing to Sierra Leone unless the youth (the future of Sierra Leone) are given the opportunity to be heard loud and clear on pertinent issues that affect their wellbeing.

How Are You Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden of Sierra Leone?
The reason for me to mention that particular incident is to clearly illustrate the kind of energy that is vested into one single young lady…. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden. This young and only female publisher in the country is able and has the potentials to mobilize APC and SLPP women under one flag and push it forward in real solidarity. That is worth commending! This is the kind of action Sierra Leone has been losing since the end of the war. The potential of Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden should not be put into freezers for the Bumbuna electricity power to make it frozen but instead start to exploit that potential and put it into a very good use. She might electrify women to do what they are supposed to do for them to be able to sit in the front of political and administrative power in the country.

Is Allieu Sesay The Daniel Of Sierra Leone?
If we could recall, more than one month has gone by since Mr. Allieu Sesay, Commissioner General, National Revenue Authority, was unceremoniously sent on leave pending investigation of allegation of corruption by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Seven weeks have gone without a single question from ACC or some information to the public about the status of the investigation. People tend to wonder why that is.

Letter to the Editor of Patriotic Vanguard Newspaper of Sierra Leone
I have read Christian Foday Sesay’s (CFS) latest lengthy piece of January 30th 2010 and try as hard as I can, I have been unable to really grasp what is his motivation for that piece entitled “A Rejoinder to Sylvia Blyden”. He is a young man whose articles I have respected even when I have not agreed with some of them. Similarly, I do believe he commands some respect from other patriots with like-minds to mine. This is why I am taking time off to clear the air. For the benefit of your readers, I am reproducing below, email correspondence between CFS and I and also the ones exchanged between myself and the Honourable Commissioner Abdul Tejan-Cole so the public can judge.

If You Can Not Thank Tejan Kabbah... Leave Him Alone!
One of Sierra Leone’s greatest Statesmen, Former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and my maternal grandfather the famous Creole APC Politician, Professor S.A.J. Pratt share a very warm friendship that has spanned over fifty years; long before I was born. Thus, many people were under the mistaken belief that it was my grandfather who asked President Kabbah to take me under his wing when I returned home from America in 2003. They are so totally wrong! Indeed, when I finally returned home from America in 2003, President Kabbah, to his credit, went out of his way to make me feel at home despite long-running resistance from people who told Kabbah I was a mole or a pro-APC agent.

The Self-Mockery of Sierra Leone's President
Our honored President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is a much loved figure especially in the Northern and Western axis of Sierra Leone. His popularity in these regions that swept him into office is indisputable. However, the President has a trait that is fast proving to be his Achilles heel. The Achilles heel of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is that he has a tendency of publicly bringing down his own people, subjecting them to sometimes undeserved mockery whilst he might be self-deluding himself that he is escaping the mockery and retaining a gloss of incorruptibility.

Until We Can Enforce Libel Insurance Long May Sierra Leone’s Libel Laws Live!
During the height of the impasse between the Sierra Leone Judiciary and the Sierra leone Association of Journalists, I paid a visit to senior journalist Dr. Julius Spencer at his offices. It was my first time of visiting his well-furnished and tasteful offices and I was warmly welcomed. During the conversation which centered on how the impasse could be amicably ended, Dr. Spencer, who knew I had been subjected to a vicious police manhunt and then charged to Court under the country’s False News laws, quizzed me as to whether I now realised why it was important for all journalists to support the cry for the criminal libel laws to be removed unconditionally. My response, I could tell, shocked him to the core!

The Mobile Phone Saga
Over the past few weeks we have seen a number of articles appearing in newspapers on the issue of the fine imposed by NATCOM on two mobile phone companies in the country. This seeming conflict between NATCOM and mobile companies has drawn a lot of attention and much has been said and written about it. I have decided to weigh in with my views now because I believe that much of what has been said has hit the nail on the head, but a number of points have so far been missed.

Publisher’s Bodyguard & Koroma Justice System
It is also important to note that ever since the State commenced proceedings against Blyden’s bodyguard in October at the instigation of the President’s Press Secretary’s publications, not a single witness has appeared to testify against Kalilu Jalloh. It is well known that whilst Blyden does not hesitate to heap praises on the President or his Government when such is due, Blyden is a fearless advocate of the common man whose critical pen has exposed many shenanigans of the President’s team to their displeasure. As a result, she has been subjected to many intimidating tactics of which this one involving her bodyguard is just the latest.

Publisher’s Bodyguard & Koroma Justice System
Sierra Leone’s topsy-turvy justice system under former APC Leaders contributed in no small measure to the outbreak of the civil rebellion that rocked the very existence of this country with the viciousness it embodied. It was one of the reasons why the APC Leader Ernest Bai Koroma apologised profusely to this Nation; Such injustices, his 2007 Elections Manifesto promised would not be repeated under his own APC regime. Alas! It now appears that the Manifesto was saying one thing whilst the President’s regime is now portraying a different look altogether. This is why many citizens are now decrying the growing injustice in the halls of the country’s justice system as manipulated by the Executive Arm of President Koroma’s regime.

I Rest My Case!!!
Moussa Dadis Camara, the out gone Head of State of neighbouring Republic of Guinea, would have been a worldwide respected and highly recognized military personality by now hadn’t it been for his display of sheer arrogance and insensitivity. He shot himself in the leg, thereby putting his distinguished military career to a complete end and at the same time jeopardizing his very safety. What he deserves now is life imprisonment or death...and nothing good.
