We are in an economic super-cycle
The world economy is in a super-cycle. This is a period of historically high global growth, lasting a generation or more. There are many factors driving this, including rising trade, high rates of investment, rapid urbanisation and technological innovation. Super cycles are also characterised by the emergence of economies enjoying rapid growth, such as China, India and Indonesia now. The world economy has twice enjoyed super-cycles before. The first, from 1870 to 1913, saw a significant pick-up in global growth, with the world growing on average each year by 2.7%, a full one per cent higher than previously seen.

Government Concedes to Awareness Times but
It is an unfortunate situation. His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Fountain of Honour, is caught in the middle of the biggest Presidential Embarrassment in the History of Sierra Leone. Awareness Times investigators have exposed how, for the very first time in the History of Sierra Leone, we have a Head of State who goes on to personally sign a Preface to a book that contains SEVERAL OUTRIGHT LIES but which H.E. unfortunately states in his Preface, alongside his Presidential looking Photograph, as containing, in his words, “positive transformations we have engendered in the country since our assumption of office three years ago”. With Alpha Wurie as SLPP Leader you are assured of ‘Sababu’
Each of the twenty-three contenders for the Leadership and president of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are competent by all indications to lead the party and indeed preside over the presidium of Sierra Leone. In the individual rights of these people, they hold strong personalities and characters which the tendency of pulling support for the party in the forthcoming presidential election. However, these people, no matter their strong personalities and characters, have inextricably different personality traits, competences and capabilities; based on their individual experiences, which when put into proper perspective would tend to put some above others, in terms of their expected outputs as leader of the country’s oldest political party; a party that has made the greatest impact on the political, social and civil consciousness of Sierra Leoneans.

Support of Only Sixteen MPs can pass Budget?
Unless it states otherwise in documented Parliamentary orders, if we go strictly according to the 1991 National Constitution, then we can safely conclude that there is a huge lacunae (big loophole) in our Constitution which makes it possible for just 16 (sixteen) MPs to agree to pass our National Budget into law (ie: The Appropriation Act of Fiscal Year 2011). Section 89 of our National Constitution first of all gives the quorum for Parliament to meet as being only 25% which means only 25% of 124 current Parliamentarians are needed for the business of the house to proceed unabated.

Too Late to Denounce the Kono Violence!
Executive and ordinary members, Parliamentarians, Presidential aspirants and supporters of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) were ruthlessly attacked in Kono, eastern Sierra Leone, on the 13th and 14th November 2010. The SLPP party offices and residences of SLPP members were also attacked by smearing of human excreta (kaka) on the said premises. Prime suspect of the attacks is a very strong supporter of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party, Adamu Eze.

So Did President Koroma Lie? Part (2)
This is Part 2 of my ongoing Questions for the attention of the Presidency of Sierra Leone. It will be recalled that on November 8th, 2010 this year, I had posed a question over why the Presidency fabricated an OUTRIGHT LIE about a Junior Secondary School in the township of Tondola in Kailahun District. In response, the main Opposition party’s reprehensible Fifth Columnist Tom Nyuma was to shame himself and his political party by coming out with what he called a Press Release in defense of the Presidency. The Tom Nyuma’s Release was rubbish and simply compounded the embarrassment as yesterday, Plan International, in a Statement issued to Awareness Times at our offices, reduced Tom Nyuma’s disgraceful Press Release to what it rightly deserves to be treated as: a piece of TRASH containing LIES.

Sierra Leone: Siaka Stevens Ruling Style of the Seventies & the Issue of Tom Nyuma in 2010
I am currently in Yaounde, Cameroon from where I have read a news interview granted to Sierra Leone's Concord Times by Kailahun District Local Government Chairman Tom Nyuma who is alleged to have sliced off the ears of the late Police Chief Bambay Kamara before personally slaughtering him and others on December 29th 1992. In Concord Times, Nyuma is quoted as having said it was “crazy” for anyone to associate him with the APC. Nyuma spends a lot of time talking about how it was not President Koroma who gave him the expensive Jeep. Well, who said it was the President? I clearly identified the Donor to be the President’s cousin, John Sisay, CEO of Sierra Rutile whom my documentary investigations show to have imported the Jeep into the country under the stated guise of “Own Use” on the Customs Documents following which he (John Sisay) first registered the Jeep on May 10th.

VICTIM OF KONO ATTACK: Moses Nyambe Explains Ordeal
I am a victim of Adamu’s reckless attack on SLPP in Kono. I am gradually recovering from the wounds I sustained in my ears and head inflicted by the stick and stone missiles that hit Dr. Kadi Sesay’s convoy. As I respond to treatment in my little room in rural Freetown, I still cannot understand the rationale for the brutal and unprovoked attacks on innocent people who hold a different belief from the APC government. Was this attack meant to intimidate or destroy Dr. Sesay and take her out of the SLPP leadership race? I don’t know.

As APC Attacks SLPP with Faeces & Violence... Sam-Sumana Should Ask of Himself
The SLPP last month held a mammoth meeting in President Koroma’s hometown which is also the APC party’s stronghold of Makeni town in Bombali District; the SLPP was there to present their 23 Aspirants for the position of Party Flagbearer. That meeting was held at the same time the President was visiting Kailahun, the hometown of the SLPP Leader John Benjamin. What became a source of jokes was the fact that the massive crowd of SLPP who stormed Bombali on that day far exceeded the crowd of APC supporters who simultaneously stormed Kailahun so much so that John Benjamin was overheard teasing that his friend Ernest Koroma should take this irony as a sign of defeat come 2012.

In Sierra Leone, Awareness Times vs. Premier Media Awareness Times Set to Undress Premier Media
Football analysts in Freetown have made public that the Premier Media Football team is sure to suffer a humiliating defeat in the hands of the seasoned Awareness Times Newspaper football team, in the forthcoming friendly football match slated for tomorrow Saturday 13th November 2010 at the Keity Field in Kingtom. The match has already garner momentum with hundreds of football lovers well set to grace an interesting and memorable match.

Is Sierra Leone's 'Fine Boy' Sleeping?
You've been in power for three years now and you told the nation of Sierra Leone that you should be judged or evaluated after three years in office; this is what I want to do from my own little corner. The State of Affairs in Sierra Leone and Your Agenda for Change programme has been very popular and well received by the populace in the country and today it is now slang.

So did President Koroma Lie?
I am currently in possession of a Special ‘Three Years Turn-Around’ Glossy Book published by the Ernest Koroma Presidency in Sierra Leone and widely disseminated worldwide! It proclaims supposed merits of an alleged “Turn-Around” this country has experienced in 3 years under His Excellency. This book makes ambitious claims including an OUTRIGHT LIE that a multiple-roomed Junior Secondary School with Principal Quarters, Water Sanitation, etc.

Sierra Leone shoots up the UN Human Development Index
This Opinion Piece was First Published on November 5, 2010 by Cocorioko News and is being reproduced online in Awareness Times for a much wider audience: The dramatic socio-economic and political turnaround brought about in Sierra Leone by President Ernest Koroma ‘s Agenda For Change has started reaping rich dividends. The 2010 Human Development Index Report launched at the United Nations today saw Sierra Leone impressively moving up the ladder from 167 to 158 in another undeniable indication that the All People’s Congress ( APC ) Government has succeeded in improving the quality of life of Sierra Leone, even though many challenges remain for the nation, which is still recovering from one of the bloodiest and most destructive wars in human history.

The Unfinished Revolution: Getting the Balance Right in Sierra Leone's House of Parliament
About Twenty-three (23) countries in the world have achieved a critical mass of 30 percent women in national parliaments. These countries have been successful because each of them has recognised the importance of equity between women and men in decision-making as reflected in changes in their electoral and parliamentary processes. As a woman who has dedicated the best years of my life fighting for gender equality and equity, I am convinced that this an opportune time for Mama Salone to join the global movement in support of her womenfolk. All we need is the political will to do so. There are a number of ways through which a country can achieve a critical mass.

Drugs Can Be More Harmful Than You May Know!! An Easy Way To Commit Suicide- Drugs.
Drugs in every form, state or preparation are important tools used in administering treatment to humans, but if overused, misused or abused can lead to severe catastrophes that will, in most cases, endanger the life or lives of the person or people involved. The drug paracetamol, for example has been shown to have dangerous effect on the liver. Prolonged use, misuse or abuse of this drug will therefore predispose an individual to severe liver abnormality which may end in its failure and ultimately death of the person in the absence of transplant. Against this background, it is important that we widen our understanding of the use of these all important and yet potentially dangerous substances.

They’re Angry; Plans went Awry …so they accuse ‘Egocentric’
They laid their plans so very well in order to fool the local and international world that this APC is serious about fighting corruption. Everything was set; well-set. Alieu Sesay was described over a period of many preceding months as a State House ‘blue-eyed boy’ whilst Afsatu Kabba was labelled as a powerful and untouchable State House ‘Baby’. The public was regularly brainwashed that they (Afsatu & Alieu) were both two favourites of President Koroma when in reality, the two people had long ago, been offered up for sacrifice.

Mohamed Should Blame President & Margai; Not J.O.B
Mohamed Bangura, I understand is not happy that SLPP Leader John Ben has reminded us of the allegation made by Mr. Charles Margai up in Makeni last month that President Koroma is involved in a shady US$300,000 deal to set up Mohamed Bangura in a new political party. However, I think Brother Mohamed is mis-directing his anger. He should be blaming President Koroma who got I. B. Kargbo to retract the blackmail comments against Mr. Margai but was content to leave Mr. Margai’s US$300,000 allegation stand unchallenged.

Time to Read Between the Lines (Part 1)
It is becoming clear to politically conscious observers that persistent attacks on selected APC or State functionaries which appear on pages of certain newspapers, have the blessings of powerful figure(s) within the ruling APC party who would like to have those APC personalities removed from office but wish to first sway public opinion against them in order to minimise the expected backlash of such removals. These particular newspapers are not anti-corruption activists as they self-portray themselves but are merely tools being used by certain powers-that-be within the Koroma regime, to mislead the public that the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone is taking hold when the real corrupt persons are going about their corruption unhindered and untouched.

Ernest Koroma’s Watergate?
Yesterday’s startling revelations by SLPP including allegation President Koroma might have tried to pervert justice with secret meeting alongside Afsatu & her lawyers, can be likened to the Watergate Scandal which eventually drove American President Nixon out of office. It is a Big Bombshell! Le300Million to dance at Bumbuna? Ernest Koroma’s APC anti-corruption credentials are gone! Whilst the chances of Sierra Leone Parliament impeaching Ernest Koroma are slim, the voters now know that the systematic looting of funds from the Fisheries Special Account started way, way before the arrival of Haja Afsatu Kabba at Fisheries Ministry. They started long before!

Time to Stem Insults; Address Issues...
I wish to call on certain SLPP members to stem their insults of the charismatic and enigmatic political leader known as Charles Francis Margai. Insults serve the SLPP no good purpose and if anything, the personal invectives are simply turning people off the SLPP in the same way people are turned off the APC when APC pen-pushers leave the issues and go for personal attacks. SLPP, like the APC, needs to stem the insults and personal attacks if they indeed are trying to help the image of their party.
