Key Note Address By President Kabbah on the Dedication of the West Region Office of Nassit in Sierra Leone.
We are here today to continue the celebration of the Fifth Anniversary of NASSIT –the National Social Security and Insurance Trust established over five years ago. There could be no better way of doing this than by completing the construction of NASSIT offices in every region of the country. Only two months ago, the 16th and 17th of May 2007 to be precise, I had the pleasure of dedicating the North, South and East Regional Offices of NASSIT. By dedicating NASSIT’s West Region Office today, every region of the country would have been provided with the means for participating in the NASSIT scheme.

SIERRA LEONE:THE ELECTION OPPORTUNITY
Since the civil war officially ended in 2002, Sierra Leone has made significant progress in consolidating peace and rebuilding basic government institutions. The state now has reasonable monopoly over the use of force. There is a functioning government, with an elected president and legislature, as well as a justice system which works, even if slow and flawed. The army and police, with substantial support from the UK and others, have been rebuilt. Since the UN peacekeeping force (UNAMSIL) withdrew in December 2005, no security incident has required outside intervention.
