SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S PARTY NATIONAL YOUNG GENERATION WING
We acknowledge receipt of your letter addressed to the National Chairman on the above subject. We find it rather outlandish for you to write to us as a citizen of Sierra Leone who intends to contribute to the processes designed to safeguard our collective welfare on a London Mining Company Limited letterhead. We are also perturbed at your unfettered interest in this matter as you signed the said correspondence as Managing Director of the said institution; hence your futile attempt to defend the indefensible.

Office of President Clarifies Shekito’s Rather Misleading Statement on Ban Ki Moon
The Office of the President refers to the press report issued by its Press Secretariat dated 15th June 2010 and would like to clarify that the Secretary-General of the United Nations did not make any pronouncement in favour of the Government’s intention to institute an Inquest into the 1992 execution of the former Inspector-General of Police and 28 others. At no time during his visit did the Secretary-General make any specific comments on this Inquest or on any other event that included one or the other of Sierra Leone’s many past atrocities and brutalities. The Secretary-General expressed the opinion that any such matter should be a decision of the Government of Sierra Leone and should be addressed in accordance with the recommendations of Sierra Leone’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and in a spirit of national reconciliation and peace building.

In Sierra Leone, U.N. Secretary General Endorses Bambay Kamara Inquest, Jointly Commissions Public Broadcaster With President Koroma
Freetown, 15th June 2010: The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki Moon, has ended his two-days, on-the-spot assessment visit to Sierra Leone after making it clear that justice must be done with regards the alleged extra-judicial killings of former Inspector General of Police James Bambay Kamara and 28 others. Responding to a question directly posed to him by a journalist during a press conference at State House today with regards the proposed inquest by the Government of Sierra Leone, the UN boss replied that, ‘If there is no justice, peace can only be temporary", adding that the responsibility of ensuring that the inquiry is established squarely lies with the government.

PRESS RELEASE FROM L.A.W.Y.E.R.S.
L.A.W.Y.E.R.S notes that the government of Sierra Leone took a significant step on the 27th of April 2010, Independence Day, to reverse the "dismal maternal figures in Sierra Leone" and comply with its obligations under the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The health of women especially maternal and infant mortality is crucial in any democratic society. Women are custodians of our future. The 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone provides that one of the fundamental principles of state policy is that "the state shall direct its policy towards ensuring that there are adequate medical and health facilities for all persons, having due regard to the resources of the state". L.A.W.Y.E.R.S therefore advocates that the free health care system be properly utilized, maintained and continued inorder to secure the future of Sierra Leone.

Dr. Sylvia Blyden Makes Another Call For President Koroma to be asked to Uphold Doctrine of Separation of Powers
Your Press Release on the Free Health Care System was very well written, thoughtful and very timely... An excellent Press Release on an important contemporary issue. BUT!, as lawyers, you probably ‘forgot’(SMILE) to also include therein a call or advise for the Executive arm of Government not to make arbitrary announcements saying it had been ‘decreed’ that any suspect caught selling free health care drugs would not be granted bail by the Judiciary.
