Today is World Aids Day
Sierra Leone will today Wednesday 1st December 2010 join the rest of the world to commemorate World AIDS Day. Public Relations Officer for the National AIDS Secretariat (NAS) Sierra Leone, Abubakarr Kargbo said they have designed series of events to mark the day. He said the commemoration actually started on the 27th November 2010 and will end tomorrow 2nd December 2010.

It is currently a tough time for female staff working at the Schulenburg headed United Nations office in Sierra Leone (UNIPSIL) as some are being psychologically harangued over who leaked secret Coded Cables from UNIPSIL to Awareness Times news Publisher Sylvia Olayinka Blyden. The developing situation has now been dubbed in diplomatic circles as Sierra Leone’s ‘Wikileaks’ Saga. It can be recalled that the Awareness Times Publisher is currently in possession of top-secret Coded Cables sent over the last one year from UNIPSIL to UN Headquarters in New York in which terrible lies against certain Sierra Leonean citizens are included therein; in order to mislead the United Nations.

A newly launched Community Based Organization (CBO), De Generals, which is based at Juba Hill in Freetown, has over the weekend, disclosed plans to transform their community into a standard community. In Sierra Leone, Freetown Gets New Children’s Library
The Arch Diocese Development office for Freetown and Bo (ADDO-CARITAS) on Monday 22nd November officially opened the newly renovated pre-school library at St. Edwards Secondary School compound, Kingtom, Freetown. The children’s library was rehabilitated through support from Caritas Germany. The building was vandalized by Rebels during the decade devastated civil conflict in Sierra Leone. The absence of a children’s library at St. Edwards pre-school was a major challenge face by pupils and teachers of the catholic pre-school.

In Sierra Leone, NCP Concludes Concessioning of the SLPA Container Activities with French Company Bollore
Following several months of contract negotiations with the preferred bidder, National Commission for Privatization (NCP), on Thursday 25th November 2010, signed the Ports Concession Agreement with French Company Bollore. This was done in the presence of all stakeholders including members of the media. The Concession relates to the Container Terminal activities around the specific demarcated concession area only for a period of 20 years. This would also allow the Government of Sierra Leone to develop other areas of the Freetown Ports in the future. The Concessionaire will be named “Freetown Terminal Limited”

In Sierra Leone, Nafaya Kabbah Laid to Rest
Alhaji Abdul Rahman Kabbah, popularly known as Nafaya Kabbah, who passed away peacefully on 24th November 2010 at his Elk Street residence in Freetown, has been laid to rest at the Kissy Road Cemetery, following a well attended funeral ceremony held at the Madingo Mosque, Mountain Cut, Freetown.
