SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
SLPP Blasts Against Selectivity of ACC : Why Afsatu & Not Zainab?
Freetown, Unity Newspaper (Friday February 19th 2010): The decision of Abdul Tejan-Cole to bring in Madam Afsatu Kabba in for questioning is welcomed as it shows that no sacred cows might exist when it concerns corruption. However, until Abdul Tejan Cole arrests and questions Madam Zainab Bangura over the Indian Rice Multi Million Dollars Corruption, we will continue to have a very serious problem with the credibility of the Anti Corruption Commission Boss insofar as his handling of issues brought to his attention.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Armed Police & ACC Officials at Afsatu Kabba’s Home
Mr. Infa Kabba (snr), husband of Sierra Leone’s Fisheries Minister and his sons who were invited to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) under Section 53(1) of the Anti Corruption Act of 2008 in the early hours of yesterday morning, have returned home late yesterday afternoon. Unlike the female Minister, it appears they were not served Section 63(1) Notices which would have forced them to produce sureties and hand over their passports.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Minister Afsatu Kabba’s Husband & Sons Allowed to go Home
Mr. Nfaji Kabba (snr), husband of Sierra Leone’s Fisheries Minister and his sons who were invited to the Anti Corruption Commission under Section 53(1) of the Anti Corruption Act of 2008 in the early hours of this morning, have returned home. Unlike the female Minister, they inform Awareness Times that they were not served Section 63(1) Notices which calls for them to produce sureties and hand over their passports. Meanwhile, the hounding of Hon. Afsatu Kabba has brought back bitter memories of how the late Gloria Newman Smart was treated by the Anti Corruption Commission which led to her death in 2005. It has been learnt that the Anti Corruption investigators were banging on the gates of the Minister’s house very loudly shouting out, “Anti Corruption! Open Up the Gate!! Anti Corruption!! Open Up the Gates!!” During this time, the armed policemen were stationed all over the neighbourhood where the Minister resides.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Truckload of Armed Police Officers Pick Up Afsatu Kabba's Husband & Sons in Sierra Leone
...The convoy was very obvious and so Afsatu's husband, after a few miles at Spur Road, stopped his vehicle and the Police Truck and ACC Van also stopped. He got out and went to the Officials and pointed out that if he was not under arrest as they claimed, why were they publicly tailing him? They sheepishly responded, "nothing Sir" but refused to move off. It is important to note that as ACC swooped in as soon as the Minister took off for her meeting to take the visiting World Bank team on tour of Tombo and other Fishing areas. Naturally, the devastated woman had to cut the tour and head back to town.

Sierra Leone's Marine Resources Minister Afsatu Kabba Was Never Arrested - Her Team Of Lawyers Strongly Protest!
Lawyers for Haja Afsatu Kabba, the indefatigable, dynamic Honourable Minister of Marine Resources & Fisheries have expressed "serious disappointment" with BBC journalist and President of Sierra Leone Journalists, Mr. Umaru Fofana over his erroneous BBC broadcast which misled that the Minister was arrested last Wednesday morning by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
As Hon. Haja Afsatu Kabba Excels; Oya Sankoh is Busy Exposing Herself
The Deputy Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources is Madam Oya Sankoh, an achiever in her own right. As a woman making my own mark in my own sphere, I am always in full support of any woman who makes a positive mark. I admire any woman who navigates this male-dominated world of ours to hold her own in whatever sphere of operations she might be in. I salute all hardworking, productive sisters! This is why my Sierra Leone sister Oya Sankoh had initially commanded my respect but lately, contrary to Minister Afsatu Kabba who has been comporting herself admirably, Oya has been causing me to wonder if she does not belong to that class of ‘amazons’ who bring more shame than glory to their team members. Just look at what she did last week!

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Afsatu Kabba Assures Tombo Residents
The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources has assured residents of the Tombo community, western area rural district that a lot of goodies have been lined up for the near future. Haja Afsatu Kabba was addressing a mammoth gathering of inhabitants of Tombo, on Wednesday 27th January 2010, when she disclosed that the World Bank has provided the sum of $20,000,000 (Twenty Million United States Dollars), in order to boost the country’s fishing industry.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, President Koroma Blasts Corruption! ...and Gives Nod to Afsatu Kabba’s Efforts to raise Revenue
Reports monitored from State House yesterday indicates President Koroma has thrown the gauntlet down for all those individuals engaged in corrupt practices at State institutions. In what was described as a temper scene, the President blasted and blasted at the corrupt officials before he walked out of the conference room in anger without waiting for any reaction. Of significance though, is that the President has made a clear endorsement of the contemporary stance of Fisheries Minister Haja Afsatu Kabba to raise revenues through her insistence on full, regular and correct payments of Fishing License Fees much to the anger of corrupt officials she inherited in her ministry.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Afsatu Kabba’s Son; Ernest Koroma’s Brother (The Pot & the Kettle)
Hon. Afsatu Kabba, like President Koroma when he first came into office, was unsure of the loyalty of many of the immediate civil servants working in her ministry and she had a mission to ensure she revamped the Marine Resources Ministry for the better. So, just like President Koroma had hired his youngest brother as his Personal Assistant back then, so also did Hon. Afsatu Kabba get her younger son as one of the trusted people to be one of her eyes in the Ministry.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Afsatu Kabba Should Be Commended; Not Vilified
Mr. Duncan Copeland of the highly influential international NGO, the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) has stated that the steps taken so far by the Ernest Bai Koroma led APC regime under the leadership of Fisheries Minister Afsatu Kabba, to reform the Artisanal and Industrial Fishing sector of Sierra Leone are "impressive and commendable". Mr. Copeland was speaking during a two hour briefing session he held with some local civil society activists shortly before he flew out of the country past Sunday January 17th 2010.
