Judicial sources reveal that Former Sierra Leone Fisheries Minister Haja Afsatu Kabba has yesterday Monday November 8th 2010 paid the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Million Leones to the Law Courts’ Judicial Treasury being the sum she was fined by Hon. Justice Ademusu on October 11th 2010. Similarly sources at the Anti Corruption Commission have also confirmed that Haja Afsatu Kabba has yesterday fully paid the sum of Three Hundred Million Leones to the Anti Corruption Commission as “restitution” to the State for the amounts misappropriated from the State and for which she was convicted.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Afsatu Kabba’s Friends and Admirers Raise almost Le450 Million (US$100,000) in 24 days
The Haja Afsatu Kabba Trust Fund which is operated at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank on Account Number 001-105356-10-00-02 has, as of last night of November 4th 2010, reportedly raised the sum of almost Four Hundred and Fifty Million Leones from donations sent in by well-wishers located far and wide including all over the world. It could be recalled that the trust fund was set up by loyalists of the former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Haja Afsatu Kabba after she was found guilty on five count charges of misappropriation of public funds during a High Court trial and was fined Four Hundred and Fifty Million Leones to be paid within four weeks which ends this coming Monday November 8th 2010.

APC Grassroots Donate Le40mn to Afsatu Kabba
A group of APC grass root supporters composed of mostly market women from East-end police to Tombo has on Friday October 29th 2010 told journalists that they had made a donation of Le40,000,000 (forty million leones) into a special Bank Account at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Branch at Ross Road in Cline Town. The account was opened to help Afsatu Kabba raise money to pay her fines as levied against her recently by the High Court. Speaking on the donation, the chairlady for the group, Cecilia M. Bangura said she congratulates “the iron lady” Haja Afsatu Kabbah for her courage amidst all difficulties.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Haja Afsatu’s Lawyers did Visit State Lodge
My attention has been drawn to a press release issued by two primary defence lawyers of Haja Afsatu Kabba – Fode M. Dabor and Sulaiman Tejan-Jalloh. Initially, I was perplexed over the attacks launched against my credibility as a professional investigative writer until I realised the two lawyers were trying to save face by making a play on words. A clever semantic by the lawyers is to ‘re-state’ what I never actually stated.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
‘I did not discuss my trial with President’ - Says Afsatu
Haja Afsatu Olayinka Kabba has told Awareness Times that it was “sheer mischief” for anyone to say she discussed her criminal trial with President Koroma during the trial itself and certainly not in the presence of her lawyers. According to Haja Afsatu, she did not deny holding meetings with President Koroma but she said there was “no midnight meeting with President Koroma and my lawyers”. However, when it was pointed out to her that the allegation of such a meeting with her lawyers never mentioned the word ‘Mid-Night’, she stated that her head has been hurting her too much and so she had not read the original article but had merely been told what was in it.

Did Afsatu Kabba Deceive Herself?
The protracted corruption case between the former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Haja Afsatu Kabba, has ended in the High Court in Freetown. Afsatu Kabba was ‘convicted’ on five, out of the seven, count charges brought against her by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Statement Delevered By Haja Afsatu Olayinka Ebishola Kabba, Former Minister Of Fisheries And Marine Resources At A News Conferece On Monday,18th October, 2010
Good afternoon distinguished members of the press. Let me thank you for coming to this press conference. I must first of all thank God that this trial is over. During this trial we were persecuted together with my family. We experienced pressures driven against us. But I thank God I was not deserted. The Almighty Allah, my family and friends stood by me throughout this bitter experience. I must express from the bottom of my heart that I hold no animosity against any of my political colleagues, neither the court nor the Anti-Corruption Commission. At this juncture, let me reiterate my support and loyalty to His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to whom I remain unequivocally loyal.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Ernest Koroma = 1 and Anti Corruption Commission = 0 and Afsatu Kabba = 0
So, Haja Afsatu Kabba has been found innocent and set free on Counts 6 & 7 even though she did not say a single word in her defence but ironically, she has been found guilty on Counts 1 to Count 5 largely because she did not say a single word in her defence. She should pay a fine of Le30,000,000 per count totally Le150,000,000 and a restitution sum of Le300,000,000 giving a grand total of Le450,000,000 she should pay within the next 4 weeks or she will be sent to jail for 3 years and locked up in a prison until October 2013.

ACC, Gloria Newman-Smart & Afsatu Kabba: What Lessons for Sierra Leone?
To start off with, let me state that whilst I have not missed a single one of the sessions throughout the entire trial of Haja Afsatu Kabba, even though I arrived in Freetown on Monday night from London, I made a decision yesterday Tuesday October 12th 2010, NOT to attend the delivery of Honourable Justice Samuel Ademusu’s Judgment against Haja Afsatu Kabba because based on certain nuances and my own wide information network, I had a fair idea of what it was going to be and knew it would not be pleasant to my ears or the ears of any of the avowed sympathisers of Haja Afsatu Kabba.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Sierra Leone President is Winner in Afsatu Trial (Ernest = 1) (ACC = 0) (Afsatu = 0)
Today, Tuesday October 12th 2010, Hon. Justice Samuel Ademusu read out a lengthy judgment which was immediately hidden away in some cupboard or the other at the Judiciary and all attempts to lay hands on it, has proved futile until the close of business at the Judiciary today. Only in Sierra Leone will this happen! Anyway, we hope to reproduce the Judgment verbatim for our readers soonest we can lay hands on it. For now, suffice it to say that the main person who is a true winner after today’s judgment is His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who scored a true positive goal for himself in his urgently needed global perception as a man who has no sacred cows in the fight against corruption. In the wake of the Mining Agreements scandal, Hotel Purchases, Airplane purchases, Indian Rice, Wanza Gunboat, etc. etc., Ernest Koroma badly needed this conviction against Afsatu Kabba and the Judiciary, true to form, did not let him down. President scored big today! Judiciary did well for you Sir. Bravo!

MORE EXTRACTS FROM CLOSING ARGUMENTS ON BEHALF OF HAJA AFSATU O. E. KABBA
It is the prosecution’s theory that the sum of Le.230,000,000.00 was handed to the Accused in Parliament. The Defence for the Accused submits that this is a crucial piece of evidence in the Prosecution’s case. The Prosecution at page 22 of the address submitted that:

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
The State versus Haja Afsatu Kabba in Sierra Leone : Lawyer Yada Williams Exposes that the Anti Corruption Commission’s Sixth Prosecution Witness has Propensity to Lie
In the matter of the State versus Haja Afsatu Kabba currently awaiting Judgment at the High Court, the Prosecution, in their Closing Arguments, had alleged a theory that their Sixth Prosecution Witness, PW6 “had absolutely nothing to gain by cooperating with the other witnesses in wrongly implicating the Accused” as according to them, PW6 “was not part of the Ministry and was actually owed money by the Ministry”. It will be recalled that PW6 was presented to the Courts by Prosecutors of the Anti Corruption Commission as a Computer Engineer who was owed money from doing legitimate business with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources but however, the Prosecution did not tender a single piece of evidence to substantiate that PW6 was indeed a Computer businessman conducting legitimate business with the Ministry.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Haja Afsatu Kabba’s Lawyers Debunk ACC’s Lie
Lawyers for Haja Afsatu Kabba, the former Fisheries Minister who was charged for corruption and is awaiting judgment, have in their Closing Arguments, debunked and exposed a big lie by the State Prosecutors that their fifth prosecution witness, PW5 was a newcomer to the Fisheries Ministry at the time the monies were misappropriated.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
Afsatu Kabba Should Be Commended by Government in Sierra Leone
In comprehensive responses to the Anti Corruption Commission’s corruption case against Sierra Leone’s former Fisheries Minister, Haja Mrs. Afsatu Olayinka Ebishola Kabba (nee Savage), her Defence Lawyers have sought to rebut all the arguments of the Prosecutors. In one such section filed in front of Justice Ademusu’s Court last week, Lawyer Yada Williams Esq. argued that rather than the State vilifying Haja Afsatu Kabba, she should receive commendation for ensuring a required vacancy at the Ministry was filled by her son who volunteered his services to the Ministry, pro-bono in a show of patriotism for which he did not receive a single penny from the Government for his services rendered free of charge as the Government of Sierra Leone at the time did not have funds to pay remuneration to the required vacancy that needed to be filled.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Afsatu Kabba’s Matter Adjourns for Judgment
The curtain on the almost half a year long alleged “corruption” matter between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Ex-Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resource Haja Afsatu Kabba is slowly dropping down. The over five month long matter that had been going on in the high court of Sierra Leone will surely be concluded on its next as-yet-unannounced adjourned date. This disclosure was made on Thursday 22nd July 2010 by the presiding Judge of the matter, Hon. Justice Samuel Ademusu in court.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, ACC Fails Again in Prosecution of Afsatu Kabba
Prosecutors of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) have once again failed to undertake an expected effort during their ongoing prosecution of one of the country’s most dynamic and highly popular female politicians, Haja Afsatu Olayinka Ebishola Kabba, the former Minister of Fisheries. Last Friday July 9th 2010, the Honourable Justice Samuel Ademusu ordered for the prosecutors of the ACC to prepare a written submission of their Closing Arguments in the corruption trial of Haja Afsatu Olayinka Kabba by middle of this week, before the adjourned date of today July 16th 2010 when the Prosecution is expected to make their oral submissions as to why their case against Haja Afsatu Kabba should result in a conviction.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
In Sierra Leone, Closing Arguments in Afsatu’s Corruption Trial
Lawyers for Haja Afsatu Kabba led by Blyden Jenkins-Johnston Esq. have told the High Court of the Hon. Justice Ademusu that based on the "evidence" led during the Prosecution’s case, they had nothing to proffer in the form of witness or evidence, as, in their opinions, the Prosecution had not presented a case against their client that needed to be defended with witnesses or evidence. The Court has now ordered for the prosecuting entity, the Anti Corruption Commission to make their closing arguments in both written and oral form; following which the Defence should reply in like manner. The trial resumes on Friday July 16, 2010 for Closing Arguments.

SPECIAL REPORTS : Afsatu Kabba
BIG BOMBSHELL!! - Haja Afsatu Kabba was not even inside Sierra Leone from Oct 9th to Oct 18th 2009!
Yada Williams Esq., Senior Defence Counsel for indicted former Fisheries Minister Haja Afsatu Olayinka Kabba has yesterday July 7th 2010 told the Court that if Mr. Franklyn Wilfred Ogunlade Campbell, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Investigator in charge of the case had properly investigated the matter, he would have learnt the salient fact that between 9th and 18th October 2009, the accused, Haja Afsatu Kabba, had been out of the country and so, in that period of time, she could not have put pressure on anyone to withdraw 300 million leones from the Fisheries Marine Funds Account. This was after the ACC confessed in Court that they had not taken a single statement from Haja Afsatu Kabba in the matter of the alleged misappropriation of the said funds nor had they posed a single question to her with reference to the issue before they dragged her to court.
