Cocaine Saga: Lawyers Go to High Court in Sierra Leone
As was widely expected of them, lawyers for the 19 ‘cocaine plane saga’ suspects have last Friday September 5th 2008, filed an application at the High Court in Sierra Leone for bail to be granted to their clients. Additionally, the lawyers are asking for the matter to be transferred away from the Presiding Magistrate, Manga Deen Tarawalie who they accuse of "bias" against their clients. According to the affidavit accompanying the application for bail and transfer, the lawyers are furious that all their applications are being turned down by Deen Tarawalie despite attempts to seek proper medical care for their sick clients.

Climate Change to Affect Sierra Leone
Captain Bob Tarrant, Commanding Officer of a Royal Navy called HMS Endurance, which berth the Queen Elizabeth Quay II on Monday 1st September 2008, has disclosed to pressmen that it is apparent that climate change will affect Sierra Leone harshly within the next 10 to 15 years. During a press briefing on Friday 5th September 2008 onboard the HMS Endurance ship, the Captain intimated that the country will in the not too distant future experience hotter temperature and a reduction in rainfall, due to what he referred to as human activities, especially scientific actions and widespread deforestation.

Las Vegas Management Hires Thugs To Beat Workers in Sierra Leone
Employees of a Jackpot company, Las Vegas, have complained to this medium that early last week, they were violently beaten up until they were forced to make a confession at the company’s Siaka Stevens Street headquarters in Freetown, by a hired gang allegedly from State House. The information was relayed to this medium by the tortured youths who stormed our office few days after the incident. Group leader who identified himself as the Garrison Street Branch Director of the Company, Christopher Kebbie, revealed that they were taken to the office of the Manager, a French National called Yannis, where they were alleged to have been mercilessly beaten to extract truth from them in connection with a theft of Le.500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Leones).

Detention Managers Schooled on Detention Management in Sierra Leone
A Non Governmental Organisation, Prison Watch Sierra Leone, will today, Thursday 4th September 2008 end a two-day detention management training workshop for detention managers, including the police, prison officers and the military, at the Grassroots Gender Empowerment Building in Freetown. The purpose of the workshop is to train personnel from the detention centers on the human rights approaches to detention management. It is also aimed at keeping these personnel abreast with the special court module on detention management, so as to capacitate them with both national and international instruments governing the operations of all forms of detention in Sierra Leone.

For Indecent Dress, Traders Molested Chinese National in Sierra Leone
On Wednesday 3rd September 2008, a female Chinese national (name withheld) came under gratuitous molestation by street vendors at the Garrison Street, Salad Ground vicinity for wearing short trousers. Eyewitnesses say the female Chinese national in the company of other two colleagues were waiting to board a vehicle to their destination after shopping, when she was attached by a street vendor on the grounds that the lady was not properly dressed. The vendor also accused the lady of violating the Islamic law of fasting. In a twinkle of an eye, almost all the street vendors started raining abusive languages on the female Chinese national.
