Abdul Tejan-Cole's Letter of Resignation to Secretary to President of Sierra Leone

The May 7th 2010 Resignation Letter Speaks for itself just as the FACTS that have been reported by this newspaper about the handling of Haja Afsatu Kabba have been speaking for themselves. May Posterity Judge us all. Amen.

Is Afsatu Guilty Until Proven Innocent?
An essential belief in civilised societies is that a person is innocent until proven guilty but it will appear that for some malice-ridden haters, Haja Afsatu Kabba has to be guilty until she is proven innocent. Despite all the anomalies and strangeness around the manner she was investigated, charged and is being prosecuted with some procedures even being unprecedented, persons still wish to insist that she is guilty until proven innocent.

EDITOR’S NOTE: NAG is an organisation formed and operated by Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura, one of the sacred cows of this current Ernest Koroma regime and also one of the suspected master-planners of the current plight of erstwhile Fisheries Minister Haja Afsatu Kabba. This is why the above Press Release has not taken any clear position but beats neither here nor there!.

In Sierra Leone, ACC Advisory Chair Speaks on Tejan-Cole
The Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Anti Corruption Commission, Dr. Alfred Fawundu has granted an exclusive interview to this medium in which he strongly emphasised that as of the time of the interview last Saturday May 8th 2010, he had not yet set eyes on the Resignation Letter of the ACC Boss Abdul Tejan-Cole nor had he ever in the past been informed by Mr. Tejan-Cole that he had faced problems whilst carrying out the job. "Just like you, I heard the news of his resignation from the BBC and I think it must be true since the BBC is a very credible news outlet but Mr. Tejan-Cole has not discussed anything with me or with the Advisory Board about his plans to resign," Dr. Alfred Fawundu insisted.

Sulaiman Banja-Tejansie: Unfit for Purpose
Lawyer Sulaiman Banja Tejansie should think of handing-over his Law Degree back to the University as his words over Radio FM98.1 yesterday morning exposed his ignorance of many aspects of even the most basic element of the investigative powers of the Anti Corruption Commission as granted under the Act of 2008! If Abdul Tejan-Cole was unable to investigate corruption brought under his nose, who is Sulaiman Banja Tejansie blaming for the lack thereof? According to Lawyer(?) Tejansie, Abdul Tejan-Cole prepared a "brilliant report on the Income Electrix issue" to be investigated but no one investigated his fine report!

Another Rising Sierra Leone Born UK politician
Charlie Ojukutu-Macauley commonly known as Charlie O-Macauley has been re-elected for the second time at the closely fought Barnet Local Elections in London. Charlie was first spotted by his local Member of Parliament Andrew Dismore in 2005 who having worked with him for a while, concluded that Charlie is someone the Labour politicians can work with to motivate and educate Black and Ethnic voters about the importance of getting involved in British politics and making a choice of who leads them. Since then, Charlie has been in the thick and thin of Labour politics. He was first elected in the Local elections as the First African Councillor in Barnet Council in 2006.

Exclusive Details of ACC Tejan Cole’s Resignation ...An Interview with SLPP Leader John Benjamin
Sunday, 09 May 2010 9:43pm: In a Skype interview with the Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, John Oponjo Benjamin, the New People sought clarifications from statements he made in a BBC interview surrounding the ACC boss Abdul Tejan Cole’s resignation. The Chairman was quite clear that Abdul Tejan Cole has let down the nation in the fight against corruption. Chairman Benjamin opined that there were high expectations of the ACC in bringing corruption under control especially given the fact that the ACC over the past two years was given the power to indict corrupt officials without going through the Attorney General.

Hon. Justice Browne-Marke Begged to be Transferred from Afsatu Kabba's Cases
I know for a fact from impeccable sources that Hon. Justice Nicholas Colin Browne-Marke on Tuesday May 4th 2010 at around 4:00pm personally begged the Hon. Chief Justice Umu-Hawa Tejan-Jalloh in her office, virtually on his bended knees, in the presence of others, to be excused (recused) from continuing to preside over the matters of the State versus Haja Afsatu Kabba. His removal from the matters therefore had nothing to do with political interference but everything to do with patriotic local journalists’ embarrassing revelations of Browne-Marke’s links to a primary prosecutorial antagonist of Afsatu Kabba by the name of Mrs. Lilian Ada Lisk. It was a case of the Fourth Estate helping an arm of Government (the Judiciary) to do the right thing. And for this, For Di People (Paul Kamara), Independent Observer (Jonathan Leigh), Premier News (Theo Nicol) & Awareness Times (yours truly) should be credited.

Abdul Tejan-Cole’s Honour & ‘Poetic Justice’ of Effects of his Resignation
Tejan-Cole has showed President Ernest Koroma that although the APC has 99 tactics, he has the 100th and most potent tactic and by the time President Koroma will know what hit him, I.B. Kargbo will find it is too late for him to retract those “great confidence in Tejan-Cole” words. Ha ha ha! The irony is so sweet! Ha ha ha! But still on my speculations; since Tejan-Cole is such a clever character, he might see value in coming to the aid of Mr. President which is why I believe those persons hastily jumping to assert, on his behalf, that he resigned because of frustration with Mr. President’s APC are making a serious mis-calculation. What will they say or do if Tejan-Cole, in a short while down the road, gives out an interview in which he debunks them and says he was never interfered with nor frustrated in his job but that he resigned for personal family & financial benefits? Aha! Step cautiously guys!

Schulenburg might also be ignorant of the contents of certain select files hiding safely away at the Abdul Tejan Cole led ACC such as the file with document reference DOC/IF/2008/006 (more on this if need be!!!). This can be the only reason why Schulenburg teamed up with Zainab Bangura to heap such UNDESERVED praises on President Koroma in New York few days ago as if the conviction and/or indictment of Cabinet Ministers are unprecedented developments in this country. Shame; Shame; Shame on you Mr. Schulenburg!! ...However, one of the main problems facing this country for now is that between Zainab Bangura’s intertwined relationship with Transparency International through her National Accountability Group (NAG) and with International Center for Transitional Justice through her protégé, the ACC’s Abdul Tejan Cole, we have data highly suspected of being skewed, now sent out to the world about how corruption & transitional justice indices are improving in the country. Sierra Leoneans Decry their Anti Graft Commissioner Abdul Tejan-Cole
Government Information Minister Alhaji I.B. Kargbo has reflected that Tejan-Cole and the APC Government might well be on the same page when he told the BBC yesterday that the APC Government, “continued to have great confidence” in Abdul Tejan-Cole.   "Quite clearly, we have and we will continue to have great confidence in Mr. Tejan Cole. He has brought new life into the Anti Corruption Commission but of course, if on his own volition, he wants to have a go at some other thing elsewhere, there is no way by which we can stop him," the Government Information Minister said. Whilst I.B. Kargbo was effusively heaping laurels on Tejan-Cole, the opposition SLPP Leader John Benjamin in contrast told the BBC that Tejan-Cole was a disappointment who only used the country’s prominent ACC Boss job to position himself for a bigger international assignment of greater benefit to him. In so doing, Benjamin said Tejan-Cole placed “his interests above that of the country”.

How Not to Help Abdul Tejan-Cole
Abdul Tejan-Cole, Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone has admirers in the media; many of whom have acted as ventriloquist’s puppets for him. However, whilst some are still blinded to Tejan-Cole’s arrogant and conceited manner of carrying out his functions, others are now pausing and asking questions about his suitability to wield the tremendous powers conferred upon him. Not just his erstwhile media admirers but all around the country, amongst ordinary citizens, the reaction has been one of abhorrence for unscrupulous tactics like the early morning raid by armed policemen on the residence of Haja Afsatu Kabba to pick up her husband and sons and the arrant refusal to correct from Day 1, the erroneous BBC broadcast concerning the embattled woman. We all know who started the Bullying via Press in this matter and it was not Haja Afsatu Kabba. We all know who started to use the media to demonise another person and it was not Haja Afsatu Kabba.

Scenes from Law Courts at Yesterday's Trial of Haja Afsatu Kabba in Sierra Leone
Scenes from the Law Courts at yesterday's commencement of trial of Haja Afsatu Kabba. They depict State operatives within the Judiciary and Police, breaching the indicted woman's constitutional rights to a free, fair and open trial. Even the worst Treason trials in Sierra Leone have been held in Public. The cocaine trial never saw this amount of security presence and sheer brute force as was displayed yesterday at the Law Courts. The persistent harassment of supporters of the indicted woman did not affect the turn-out of her supporters at the Law Courts. If anything, yesterday recorded an even bigger crowd of Afsatu Kabba supporters at the Law Courts than the previous hearing. The supporters, like numerous journalists were blocked from entering the Law Court Building. Zainab Bangura Wants Afsatu to plead Guilty?
Many citizens have continued to contact this newspaper house to express amazement at the words from Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura past Monday in which she insinuated over a radio broadcast quite clearly that she would have begged the ACC on behalf of her indicted colleague Haja Afsatu Kabba if Kabba had confessed to guilt of the allegations. This happened Monday when Sierra Leoneans had the experience of listening to their Foreign Minister Zainab Hawa Bangura as she vehemently denied any links to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) seemingly forgetting her position as the current National Chair of the ACC’s Anti-Corruption Strategy Steering Committee which committee plays a very pivotal role in ensuring the ACC is smoothly operated according to its strategy.

Sierra Leone Association of Journalists
Good morning colleague journalists and members of the public. On this World Press Freedom Day on the 3rd of May 2010, I wish to thank all those who have made journalism easy for us in Sierra Leone in the last one year. We may not have been the most pampered, but have certainly not been the most persecuted in a world where while some see us as friends and heroes, others see us as enemies and villains. I hope those who have unnecessarily perceived Sierra Leonean journalists as enemies and intimidated, harassed and even attacked us will come to realise that we are only performing a cardinal responsibility to inform our people and speak on their behalf, no matter the odds that are stacked against us.

It is becoming increasingly clear that whenever Awareness Times publishes an article critical of the APC government, journalists supporting the government emerge from the wood works not to refute the criticisms with facts, but to attack the publisher of the newspaper whether or not she wrote the articles. Almost all APC leaning journalists are guilty of making up stories about Dr Blyden’s personal life, casting aspersions on her qualifications or attacking her family. What is more nauseating, these journalists accuse Dr Blyden as pseudo-journalist, yellow journalist or what have you. When western television screens began to show women and children with amputated limbs, and other devastating evidence emerged of the descent into violence in Sierra Leone’s civil war in the late 1990s, the crude explanation was that a generation of drug-fuelled youths had been incited by diamond-hungry Lebanese and Liberians to rebel against the corrupt and incompetent status quo. Aminatta Forna’s story of her father’s execution on trumped-up treason charges, 25 years before anyone had heard of the Revolutionary United Front, gives a more personal framework for understanding the horror of the 1990s in the linked wars of Sierra Leone...

Gordon Brown urged to investigate Tony Blair over web of companies
Gordon Brown has been urged to investigate whether his predecessor Tony Blair breached the Ministerial Code by failing to declare a complex network of multi-million pound companies and partnerships. Tony Blair is under fire over his complex web of companies. Opponents want to know why Mr Blair did not register the series of companies and partnerships with the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA), the watchdog set up to vet ex-ministers’ appointments to avoid "any suspicion of impropriety". Sir Malcolm Rifkind, a former Tory Cabinet minister and still an MP, said Mr Blair should show "maximum transparency". He said: "When you are in high profile public life it is always most sensible to show complete transparency. Even if he is reluctant to give information for entirely genuine reasons the outside world doesn’t know that and he should show maximum transparency." The money that has poured into it comes from a variety of sources, including a $2.4 million (£1.4 million) grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, intended for Sierra Leone and a further £1.5 million for Rwanda from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation set up by Lord Sainsbury, a former minister in Mr Blair’s Government.
