In preparation for the 2014 Christian pilgrimage, Christians in Sierra Leone have met with the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, Mustapha Bai Atilla to discuss and plan for the 2014 pilgrimage scheduled for September.
On behalf of the Pilgrimage Planning Committee, Bishop Archibald Cole said Heads of Pentecostal Fellowship Churches of Sierra Leone, Council of Churches in Sierra Leone and Evangelical Fellowship of Sierra Leone including the Intercessors for Sierra Leone, International Christian Embassy Sierra Leone, comprised of the Executive Committee of the Christian Pilgrimage Committee.
He said their meeting with the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs with a cross section of the Body of Christ was to discuss and plan the forthcoming Christian Pilgrimage to Jerusalem. According to him, in 2013, they received support from the government through President Ernest Bai Koroma who sponsored twelve people to the pilgrimage. He hoped and prayed that this year’s support from the president and other philanthropists will be expanded and increased.
Bishop Cole described this year’s Christian pilgrimage as one of the largest planning especially with the level of government oversight roles. He said the pilgrimage to Jerusalem is for Christians only, noting that they are intending to equitably distribute whatever support they receive from the president and his government across the board, so that committed believers can benefit from going to Jerusalem to take part in the pilgrimage.
