In a bid to compliment the efforts of Government and to support the people of Sierra Leone, the Africell Telecommunications Company has on Friday 12th September 2014, handed over to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation the second consignment of food which is to be shared to all Quarantine homes across the country, as their continued support in the fight against Ebola virus disease.

According to Africell’s Chief Corporate Officer, Joe Abass Bangura, while making his statement at Africell headquarters in Freetown, he said the presentation is in line with the initiative launched by Africell’s Chief Executive Officer, Shadi Gerjawi on 19th August this year, to set aside Le1.00 (One Leone) for every minute spoken on their network; to be used to provide food provision as part of their continuing support to the Ebola campaign. He revealed that, on Friday 29th August Africell presented the first consignment of 22,500 kilos of rice to the Ministry of Health for delivery to Ebola epicenters and quarantined communities in Kailahun, Kenema, Bombali, Tonkolili, and Port Loko.

“We are today presenting the second consignment of 20,000 kilos of rice for delivery to epicenters and quarantined communities in Freetown, Kailahun, Kenema, Bombali, Tonkolili, and Port Loko, Lunsar and Moyamba. This brings the total quantity of rice already provided to 42.500 kilos (850 bags)”, he disclosed.

He said the company urged all Sierra Leoneans to be vigilant in following all the rules provided by health authorities to prevent the infection of the Ebola virus. According to him, Freetown will get 150 bags, Kailahun 120, Kenema 140, Bombali 120, and Port Loko 50, Lunsar 50, and Moyamba 50. He noted that they will continue their partnership with A I RADIO to give all relevant information.

Our progress has been threatened, our country has been discriminated and flights have been canceled, and a lot of business activities are going backward,” he said, He said they are going to defeat Ebola as a Government and as a country, needing the collaboration and corporation on everybody is needed. He said the gesture of Africell will go a long way, and therefore thanked Africell on behalf of the Government.

The Member of Parliament for Constituency 110, Hon. Chernor M. Bah said it is very difficult to fight against something new like Ebola, but that very soon the country will overcome it. He said Government alone cannot be able to eradicate Ebola but with the support of all. He noted that they want to reduce the number of death so people must continue to spread correct messages. He at this juncture encouraged Africell to do more and applauded them for their support. He appreciated them for considering Freetown in the food stuff provision package noting that this is the first time that the country did not perform (Hajj) Pilgrimage.
