Standard Chartered bank launched Series 3 of its sponsored Ebola radio soap opera “Us Kayn Tin Dis’ on Friday 10th July 2015, at its Lightfoot Boston Street headquarters.
Since the beginning of 2015, this soap opera has been running and it’s the bank’s continuous support to complement the Government’s effort in getting to zero new infection rate to end the fight against Ebola; by disseminating key messages of Ebola on 48 Radio Stations Nationwide.
During the launching of Series 3, the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Retail Clients, Idrissa Amadu Kamara said: “Following the Bank’s earlier donation of Le150million to the government in 2014 to help in the fight against Ebola, we launched the Standard Chartered Bank sponsored Ebola soap opera, produced by Premier Media Agency, to reinforce Ebola sensitization in the country. The soap continues to gain momentum on a weekly basis, with nearly four million (more than 50%) of the total population in Sierra Leone been reached so far; discussing current Ebola themes affecting the country and reinforcing the government’s social mobilisation pillar, which translates into behavioural change, which is crucial”.
“With the follow-up public quiz on each episode, we have given Sierra Leoneans across the country an opportunity to win edible prizes, including 50kg bags of rice and five-gallon containers of vegetable oil on a weekly basis”.
“As the Country embarks on the last phase in the Ebola fight, which is the hardest, we must all be vigilant and not complacent. The need to reinforce the key messages on Ebola still remains relevant” he said. “I wish to commend Premier Media Group for partnering with us in the production of the soap opera and encourage all Sierra Leoneans to continue to listen and acquire knowledge on Ebola through the radio drama.
Standard Chartered Bank remain ‘Here for good’ in Sierra Leone”. Presenting the prizes to the winners of the last episode of Series 2 of the soap opera, the CEO encouraged them to continue to spread the Ebola messages to their relatives and friends in their communities.
Winners of the last episode of Series 2 included: Mrs Lena Kallay, Joseph Samura (two-time winners of the quiz), Rugiatu Marah, Sorie Conteh and Franklyn Pemabi.
Maiden broadcast of the first episode of Series 3 was aired on Saturday 11th July 2015 and quiz continues every other Saturday and will run for eight weeks.
