The young and dynamic newly elected President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Mr. Abdul Tejan-Cole was on Monday, 10th October 2005 sworn in by His Excellency, President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, as the youngest member of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. Speaking to Tejan Cole after the oath-taking, President Kabbah advised him that he is coming into the Judicial Services Commission at a very crucial time when the Judiciary is undergoing restructuring so as to have an efficient and effective judiciary.

Abdul Tejan Cole: Young and Brilliant

The Chief Justice, Dr. Ade Renner-Thomas whilst making a brief remark about Mr. Tejan-Cole informed the President that Mr. Tejan Cole has earned his recognition by the Sierra Leone Bar Association because of his dynamism in the legal service. Dr. Ade Renner Thomas said that Mr. Tejan-Cole is a locally trained Lawyer who has earned his reputation locally and internationally. He said that after obtaining his Law degree in Sierra Leone and was called to Bar he later went abroad to study for a Masters degree in Law.

According to the Presidential Spokesman, Mr. Tejan-Cole thanked President Kabbah for this new recognition. He said that although he is still very young and still in the learning process, he will do his best to work with the Chief Justice and the Attorney-General to uplift the Judiciary to the people’s expectations.

Meanwhile, Tejan Cole’s appointment has been warmly welcomed by members of the public especially his colleague lawyers. “Our expectations are very high and we know that he will deliver. We have no doubt in his capabilities and we are all proud of him.” Lawyer Centus Macauley, the Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Bar Association told Awareness Times yesterday.

“He is going to be the young voice on the Commission and I know that he will make Sierra Leoneans very proud.” another young but prominent lawyer, Sonkita Conteh told Awareness Times last evening.
