EC/DFID present Consultation Draft to Government
"Sierra Leone is a small country with five million people and is ranked 176 out of 177 in the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI). 70 percent of the country’s population lives below the poverty line and 26 percent lives in extreme poverty," excerpt of a joint Consultation Draft by the European Commission and the Department of International Development (DFID) states, adding, "The life expectancy is currently 41 years and the eight worst country in the world. The maternal mortality ratio are the worst in the world."
APC disapproves Kanji Daramy
Members of Parliament of the All People’s Congress (APC) party past Tuesday expressed disapproval at the Parliamentary approval of Presidential Spokesman, Kanji Daramy as Chairman of the Telecommunication Commission. Report has it that APC Members of Parliament walked out of the Main Bowl of the Parliament building in a show of disapproval during the second report of the fifth session of the Committee of Appointment. However the action of APC did not in anyway affect the approval of Mr. Daramy as Chairman of the Commission.
Christiana Thorpe bags Doctorate award
The Chief Commission of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Ms. Christiana Thorpe is reported to have been awarded a Doctorate Degree at the St. Clements University in London last Saturday. According to report, Dr. Thorpe did a comprehensive dissertation on the 11 year rebel war in Sierra Leone on the topic: The Rebel War Years Were Catalytic to Development in the Social Advancement of Women in Post War Sierra Leone." "Every cloud has a silver lining," was an adage highlighted in her thesis.
Victor Foh says SLPP is dead and buried
"Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is dead and buried," the Secretary General of the All People Congress (APC) party is reported as saying recently. The APC Scribe is reported to have made this statement during the formal registration of former SLPP stalwart Emmanuel O Grant with the PMDC. Foh added, "I went to Bo town and found the SLPP at the mortuary and the funeral was like that of a pauper."
New CID Chief appointed
Erstwhile Aid-de-camp (ADC) to the President, Chief Superintendent of Police, Al-Sheik Kamara is reported to have been appointed Acting Director of Crime Management at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Mr. Kamara was also before his appointment the Director of the Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigation Department (CDIID).
Police promotion this months
Reports have it that the promotion of the disestablished ranks of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) will be out this month. According to report about 700 policemen are expected to be promoted this month.
Satellite Clinic records over 200 cholera cases
The Satellite Clinic at Rokupr, East of Freetown has reported over 200 cases of cholera since June this year. Statistics also indicates that cholera cases increase every month: 8 cases reported in June, in July, 23 and 181 in August and September respectively.
Bishop Chigbundu in town
Popular anointed Man of God, Nigerian born Bishop (Dr.) Abraham Chigbundu is reported to have visited Sierra Leone on an invitation from one of the leading Churches in the Country – The Flaming Bible Church. The anointed Man of God is expected to minister the word of God to souls during a five-day Evangelical crusade of the church at the National Stadium this week. As usual hundreds of Sierra Leoneans are in high expectation to receive healing and revival from God during the crusade. Bishop Chigbundu is the General Overseer of Voice of Freedom Ministries Int. in Nigeria.
