First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone will today Friday 12th February 2010 visit the people of Bonthe District, Southern Sierra Leone. The Office of the First Lady yesterday told Awareness Times that Mrs. Koroma’s visit will mainly target the women in that part of the country.
“The main purpose of the visit is to identify some of the major challenges faced by the women in relation to health” Public Relations Officer of the First Lady disclosed, adding that her vision in relation to health is to reduce the maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rate in the country.

First Lady is expected to talk about her projects which include FLAXIS (The First Lady’s Attitudinal Change Project for Schools) and the WISH Project. She will tour entire Bonthe District including Bonthe Island itself, Mattru Jong and other places.
Mrs. Koroma will hold meetings with Board Members of the Mattru Jong Hospital to discuss the state of affairs of the hospital’s rehabilitation, and also to dialogue as to how to improve upon standards at the hospital.
On Saturday, First Lady Sia Nyama Koroma will attend the graduation ceremony of the newly trained nurses at the Mattru Jong Hospital where she is expected to give the Keynote Address. The First Lady, who studied Nursing in the United Kingdom during the period her family fled the junta interregnum, is expected to impart to the new nurses, the importance of reducing the maternal & child mortality and morbidity indices.
Mrs. Sia Koroma will be returning to Freetown by Monday morning.
