In Sierra Leone, Education Minister Commissions New Schools

The Minister of Education Science and Technology Dr. Minkailu Bah on Saturday 4 February 2012 commissioned newly constructed schools for Kenema, Kono and Kailahun districts.

The commissioning exercise brought together Mayors and District Chairpersons in the Eastern Province, the two Deputy Ministers of Education and other educational stakeholders as well as local authorities.


Delivering his Keynote Address on the occasion of the commissioning of the completed schools at Burma-4 Community in Kenema, Dr. Minkailu Bah on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology registered his sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who came to witness and participate in the commissioning and handing-over ceremony of the newly constructed schools by the government under the EFA-Fast Track Initiative Programme

Dr. Minkailu Bah described the occasion as another milestone by the government of Sierra Leone working in collaboration with its educational partners and Line Ministries towards achieving objectives of the government Agenda for Change

The minister said a total of twenty-six Primary and Junior Secondary Schools have been completed nationwide and ten schools in the eastern province are to be commissioned on this segment.

He noted that every local council was allocated three schools of which Kenema city council has completed the three schools and are currently in use. Dr. Minkailu Bah congratulated the World Bank, UNICEF, Decentralization Secretariat and Local Government Finance Department and other education partners for their supportive roles towards the actualization of the commissioning


He charged the School Management Committees, Board of Governors, staff and pupils of the beneficiary schools to be very responsible in handling the facility warning pupils not to damage the furniture and books.


Dr. Bah pledged Government’s support and willingness to do more especially for deprived communities. The Minister reassured the people that the Government of Sierra Leone and its partners, through the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, will not relent in its duty of making quality education accessible to children of Sierra Leone.
