Sierra Leone Youths Honor President & Chief of Staff

Youths of Sierra Leone, under the National Youth-Led Award Initiative on Thursday 15th March 2012, gave prestigious awards to His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma and the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, Dr. Kaifala Marah. This was at an auspicious ceremony inside State House in Freetown. According to the citations, the two distinguished personalities were awarded for their outstanding performances in the process of transforming Sierra Leone from a donor-driven to a self-reliant country.


Minister of Political Affairs, Hon. Alhaji Alpha Kanu who received the award on behalf of the President, thanked the award committee for recognizing the good work of their President. He noted that in any country in the world, youths are one of the difficulty sectors of people to manage and have them be pleased.

He therefore said for youths in this country to come together and award their President for his outstanding performance, is a clear manifestation that the President is right on track and deserves more years to govern his people. He assured his audience that the President is very much committed to the implementation of the agenda for change, whilst further reassuring the youths that the President has a lot more positive goods in store for them.


Minister Kanu used the forum to admonish youths to turn their backs against violence of any nature, whilst encouraging them to attach themselves to undertaking something meaningful that will transform their lives and make them self-reliance. He congratulated the awardees on their awards, whilst encouraging them not to relent, but to continue their good works in repositioning Sierra Leone in the world map.

For his part, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Kaifala Marah also thanked the award committee for recognizing their good work. He said the award does not come as a surprise, but will empower him to do more to support his boss, the President, to turn the wheel of development and map Sierra Leone high in all sectors of development.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the National Youth-Led Award Committee, Mr. Mohamed D. Koroma, revealed the Committee was initiated by youth organizations that came together with the aim of forming an organization that would be responsible to identify and recognize individuals who are performing excellently in service to the Nation.

Mohamed D. Koroma said the committee actually held their Awards Ceremony in December 2011 during which a good number of outstanding personalities were awarded but by then, two of the awardees, President Koroma and Dr. Kaifala Marah were absent, so the youths decided to defer their presentations to another date which was yesterday. According to him, both President Koroma and Dr. Marah are recognized by the Youths of Sierra Leone for their excellence in national stewardship and for being role models for youths.
