Reports reaching Awareness Times allege that the All People’s Congress (APC) Deputy Whip in Parliament, Hon. Salamatu Turay was recently involved in a fierce dispute with the APC’s Constituency 112 Chairman, Mr. Bernard M. Kamara.
This information was reported to the Awareness Times by Mr. Bernard M. Kamara, who stormed our office to register his frustration over what he described as "unfair treatment" allegedly meted on him by Hon. Salamatu Turay.
Mr. Kamara says he was the campaign manager and spokesman for Hon. Salamatu Turay during the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections and played a pivotal role in the success of both the APC party and the Honourable in that constituency.
He reported that he went into the bad books of the Honourable after he pitched tents with another APC candidate during the last local council elections, an action which allegedly annoyed Hon. Turay.
Mr. Kamara alleged since the local councils elections he is being constantly harassed by Hon. Turay.
"Very recently, I was attending a community development meeting at the Lumley Community Center, when Hon. Salamatu Turay stormed the center and immediately uttered threatening remarks against me," he alleges, adding that Hon. Turay equally threatened to jail him.
According to reports, the Honourable then telephoned the Local Unit Commander of the Lumley Police Station, Kabbah Kamara who immediately intervened by ordering the arrest and detention of Mr. Bernard M. Kamara.
The situation was reportedly salvaged with the timely intervention of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Chukuma Johnson and other stakeholders who facilitated the release of Mr. Kamara.
Mr. Bernard Kamara told Awareness Times that it all started after the 2007 presidential and parliamentary elections.
"At the time, I was constrained with housing and I decided to take all my belongings to Hon. Salamatu Turay for safe keeping," he said, adding that efforts to get his properties from the Honourable proved futile.
"Every time I make an attempt at calling the Honourable, she keep on giving irrelevant excuses and I have made several complaints to no avail," Mr. Kamara said, pointing out that he reported the matter to several party stalwarts but it appeared that they are unable to salvage the situation.
When contacted, Hon. Salamatu Turay denied all allegations made against her by Mr. Bernard Kamara.
"He is just frustrated as his high expectations from the party are yet to be fulfilled," Hon. Salamatu said, whilst confirming that there was indeed a bitter argument between herself and Mr. Kamara.
Hon. Salamatu also denied allegations that she refused to hand over Mr. Kamara’s properties.
"They are ready at any time he request for them," she said, adding that he was just aiding Mr. Kamara from his homelessness.
"He has never asked me for his property and I have nothing absolutely to do with his property," Hon Salamatu asserted.
