Sierra Leone State Lottery Launches Lotto Pools in Koidu

The Sierra Leone State Lottery Company on Sunday October 5, 2008 launched its lotto pools in Koidu Town in the Kono district at a ceremony held at 5 Old Yengema Road in Koidu.

The ceremony, attended by people from all walks of life, followed the successful launching of the Lotto Pools in the Western Area, Bo, Kenema and Makeni respectively.

Managing Director, Mr. Abu Bakarr Dizo-Kamara in his statement expressed appreciation to Board Members and staff of the company for helping to actualize his vision.

He says football is today the most popular sport and social activity in the world.

"We at Lotto believe that the football pools, the company’s latest addition to its fleet of wonderful games, will adequately augment not only the social but financial desires of the country," he said, adding that the game will also help the rebuilding of Kono.

"If our people in Kono buy the products of the company, the proceeds from the sales will be used on several development projects in the district," he said while calling on people to nominate representatives who will be in charge of selling the Lotto Pool books for the different institutions.

" Representatives are needed from the police force, Kono district council, the 9th battalion and the Koidu New Sembehun City Council," he says.

Chairman Board of Directors, Aiah Songu Mbriwa told the audience that the company could have responded positively to the recent disaster that affected Kono but due to certain circumstances beyond its control they were unable to help.

"But we promise to help in future, which is why we are encouraging you to embrace the company by participating actively in buying our products," he said, adding that it is the only way the company can assist the people of Kono.

"Part of the proceeds from the sales of tickets from Kono will be used towards the development of Kono," he revealed while recognizing that the Managing Director of the company is a very hard working man with a vision to take the Company to its highest height.

For his part, Chiefdom speaker Mr. Aiah M. Kamanda welcomed the Lotto Pools.

He says the Pools will keep the youths busy and help reduce the crime rates in the district.

Delivering the keynote address, Mayor S.M. Senesie Gbendu encouraged the people of Kono to play the Lotto games.

He said Lottery products have contributed immensely towards the economy of America.

"Kono is far behind and need a lot of improvements," he says, adding that people in Kono should seize this opportunity to change their lives.

Chairman of the Kono District Council Sahr John Yambasu in launching the Lotto Pools thanked the Board, Management and staff of the Company for putting such a product together.

He called on the management of the company to assist the Kono people in their development drive.

Mr. Yambasu also bought a book of the lottery games as a show of his support to the game.

The vote of thanks was delivered by District Sales Officer, Mr. Moray Din-Kargbo.
