One Alhaji Kamara on Wednesday October 15, 2008 appeared before Magistrate Bankole Shyllon of Magistrate Court No3 on a one count charge of larceny by trick.
The particulars of offence state that the defendant on Thursday 9 October 2008 at the Murray Town community took a mobile phone (Nokia 100) valued at two hundred and fifty thousand Leones (250,000) from the complainant Augustine Santigie.
The accused told the court he is guilty but wants to explain what transpired between himself and the complainant.
He says he borrowed the complainant’s mobile phone because he wanted to make a phone call to a friend of his at Murray Town who was reportedly shot with a "witch gun."
He told the court that he went to the police station to return the phone for safe keeping to one police officer named Kadie who was not on duty at the time.
It was while at the police station that he was detained and charged to court.
Magistrate Shyllon however sentenced the defendant to six months in prison or pay a fine of two hundred thousand Leones (200, 000).
In another development, Abraham Foday Kai was charged to court on a two count charge of wounding and assault occasioning to actual bodily harm on June 2, 2008 at 1 Crab Town, Lumley in Freetown against the complainant, Mohamed Joseph Kemokai.
He pleaded not guilty to all count charges.
The matter is being prosecuted by Sgt. Bangura.
Bail was granted in the sum of two million Leones and the matter was adjourned to October 28, 2008 for further hearing.
