The event, initiated by the Young Leaders Sierra Leone is part of a global mobilization geared towards raising awareness on the need to empower young people in the country.
"To further enhance the pursuit of rebuilding Sierra Leone, the conference organisers want to strongly encourage young people that they have a significant role in the development of the country," a Press Release from the Group states.
The Group says experiences drawn from Sierra Leone’s recent history have shows the level of deprivation endured by youths in the country.
It could be recalled that a similar event was held in the United States last year by the North America Branch of the Group.
"The UK Branch is now continuing this process, which will then lead to Sierra Leone taking up the task of hosting a conference later this year," the Group states, adding that the objective is to bring together young Sierra Leoneans to discuss the present state of political, economic, and social structures in the country.
"Filling the knowledge gap among young Sierra Leoneans at home and in the Diaspora about the pressing issues affecting youth in Sierra Leone is of paramount concern," it noted, while emphasizing that a collective agenda for young Sierra Leoneans involved in reshaping these structures and policies affecting youth in Sierra Leone need to be developed
Award-Wining film maker, Sorious Samura of the Cry Freetown Fame, Ade Daramy, former Editor of Mano Vision Magazine and Unisa Dizo-Conteh, publisher of the award-winning Cotton Tree magazine are among the speakers lined up for the said event
