The U.S. Presidential Elections Gone Toxic

Iattended the Bo School. This school laid too much emphasis on good manners while English language is a must to be spoken at all times. Speaking Krio was punishable and the penalty was sometimes harsh.

Examples of these punishments include watching the sun, lying down on your back, or sweeping the compound.

A ‘kotor’, who was a bully but couldn’t express himself well in English, got into a heated argument with an articulate ‘small boy’ who was eloquent in the English Language.

The Bo School has ‘kotors’, ‘ngohs’ and ‘small boys’; you are called a ‘kotor/ngoh’ if you have an admission number that denotes early entry or admission to the school.

‘Ngoh’ in Mende means a senior and so is ‘kotor’ in Temne.

This event took place by the swimming pool, where the boys show off with their new English words they have acquired. The pool was packed with ‘kotors’, ‘ngohs’, ‘small boys’ and ‘greeners’ on that Sunday.

All of a sudden, we heard some loud booing and laughter by a group of ‘small boys’. Everybody got out of the pool and went to see where the noise was coming from.

It was found out that it was the ‘kotor bully’ and the ‘small boy jaw jawing’ but because a prefect was around, and no bully will take place.

‘kotor’ was using some words that were not English enough to be understood whilst the ‘small boy’ was ‘metiing’ for ‘kotor’ in very good English, (metiing-is a Bo School English for insulting or molesting). In response, the ‘kotor’ will come up with a word like; ‘your semi-hemi-demi quayva, your tintinabulation, your shokoloko bangoshay.’ A lot of these strange words from the ‘kotor’ thinking that he was impressing us with English words.

We found out that the ‘kotor’ was from a remote village elementary school, but because of his family connection with one teacher, he was admitted to the school. He lasted just for a year.

The debate between Barrack Obama and John McCain reminds me of this ‘kotor’ and the ‘small boy’ during my school days.

Here, instead of the English language, we are talking about issues.

Senator McCain and his running mate Governor Sarah Palin, are void of issues to tell the American voters, Obama talks about jobs for the people, health care, education, home owners getting their homes back etc.

McCain and Palin have gone petty by calling Barrack Obama a terrorist, non-white, a Muslim, also employing a racist Korsi to write inflamatory book about Barrack Obama in

his hometown Kenya, which is also a deviation of what the Americans want to hear in the 21st Century.

But what will McCain talk about? Besides been a Prisoner of War in Vietnam and Palin a Mayor of a village in Alaska, sitting on a sledge drawn by huskies on the snow, shooting Polar Bear and fishing in the ice being ‘nice’ to the native Inuit (Eskimo), who does not know where Russia is located, Russia being close to Alaska.

The Americans are a civilized people that have seen a lot, learnt a lot and are not ready for any more garbage from the likes of McCain and Palin in this 21st Century.

For God’s sake, let Presidential candidates talk about issues not only in America but the whole world. A
s the saying goes; ‘when America sneezes, the whole world catch cold.’
