Former Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea, Dr. Shekuba Saccoh has spoken to the fourth estate on his intention to lead the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).

He made this disclosure on Wednesday 5th November 2008 at the party’s Wallace Johnson Street headquarters. "I am announcing to you that I intend to lead the SLPP starting from now till 2012, when we shall re-occupy State House," he pointed out. He expressed belief that with the candid input of the fourth estate, SLPP can get back at the helm of power, the party’s rightful position.
He used the briefing session as an opportunity to thank the former president, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabba for affording him the opportunity to represent his country outside.
Dr. Saccoh dispelled rumours of the party’s disintegration. "The SLPP as an experienced political party still stands firm and united," he proudly stated.
To allay the fears of political skeptics, he said his stay in Guinea as an ambassador after elections was only aimed at ensuring a smooth transitional process, with nothing to do with pitching tents with the ruling APC. "I was born into an SLPP home in Kalangba, Bombali District," he disclosed, adding that his late father, Foday Saccoh, together with late Hon. Y.D. Sesay brought the SLPP to that district.
"Infact it was in the twin towns, Batkanu and Kalangba that the SLPP got nurtured, packaged and then subsequently transported to other areas in the entire Bombali District," he alleged.
It could be recalled that Andrew Keili, an engineer of CEMMATS, who had once been touted as a possible running mate to Ernest Bai Koroma, had also declared his intention to lead the party.
