A British born Sierra Leone model, Amina Kamara has clinched the first annual Miss West Africa (UK) on Saturday November 8th 2008 in London, the United Kingdom making her the official Miss West Africa of 2008.

In an interview with the Patriotic Vanguard after being crowned, Aminata said she had been on many stages modeling but admitted "this is the very first time I actually participated in a beauty pageant."

Born and raised in the UK to Sierra Leonean parents, the Tourism student at the University of Kent, UK is a hard working young woman who strides to succeed in everything she does. She is expected to graduate this month.

Aminata visited Sierra Leone in 2003 for the very first time and witnessed some deplorable conditions among the people. "Since then, I just have this eagerness and passion to help my people, she told the Patriotic Vanguard. She said she would use her talent and this new title to do whatever to eradicate poverty in Sierra Leone. She has realized her main dream and passion is FASHION.

Amina Kamara has worked with various UK artists in video and photo shoots, and has also modeled for fashion designers and continues to find more work in this field.

"I still aspire to be the most successful model in the UK," she has mentioned in her Facebook group of this pageant.

At only 21 years and standing tall at 510", Ms. Kamara had waited and anticipated this moment over two months since she registered to be part of this beauty contest.

Miss. West Africa (UK) was set to be UKs largest beauty pageant for 2008, with an intense competitive beauty of West African women from around the world.

On that great evening, eleven finalists from across the West African communities in the UK were competing for this prestigious title, with Ms. Kamara merging the princess of the night with the grand prizes.

Amongst the prizes that she took home is a cash prize in UK pounds and a return ticket to Nigeria, etc.

Ms. Kamara thanked all the people that supported her throughout this pageant. "My appreciation goes out to my parents, Mr. & Mrs. Kamara; my management team, Ms. Chantelle Lewis and Mr. Vernon Chikonotwe; my hairstylist, Excel World; all my family members, friends and supporters throughout this venture."

She finally ended on this note: "I want to raise awareness of the importance of our beloved country and what it means to be Sierra Leonean. Being
