Ecobank Group Risk Managers meet in Nairobi
NEWS RELEASE

Nairobi, November 19, 2008Over 60 managers of the pan-African banking group Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) gathered in Nairobi for the Annual Risk Management Conference 2008.

The meeting at The Stanley featured risk and credit managers from all the 25 African countries where ETI has a presence, and came eight weeks after the Groups financial controllers met in Nairobi.

"This signals the importance that the Ecobank Group attaches to Kenya, given the countrys economic centrality in the Eastern and Southern Africa region," Group Chief Risk Officer Ahmed Iyane Dia said.

ETI entered the Kenyan market early this year after it acquired 75 percent shareholding in EABS Bank Limited. Its subsidiary, Ecobank Kenya Limited, has become very significant to the Groups expansion plans in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Dia said the bank targets a wide market in Africa and provides a broad-range of innovative products and services to its customers. He said that with the East African Community (EAC) being effective in the next few years, it is vital to make Kenya the business hub for the Eastern and Southern Africa region.

The Ecobank Group is committed to supporting the development of e-banking products in Kenya. ETI has opened an International Technology and Shared Services Centre in Ghana, which is the technology and central processing nucleus of the Ecobank Group.

ETI provides wholesale, retail, investment and transaction banking services and products to governments, financial institutions, multinationals, international organizations, medium, small and micro-businesses and individuals.

Mr. Philip Ikeazor, Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya, noted that the risk management conference was being held "at a time when the world is facing a severe credit crisis."
