FCC/Gender Ministry Donate to the Vulnerable in Sierra Leone

In collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Childrens Affairs, the Mayor of Freetown Councilor Herbert George-Williams on behalf of Council have made various donations to the disabled inmates of remand homes, economically disadvantaged children and parents in the municipality.

The Remand Home and Approved School, viable disabled groups, destitute single mothers, Network for Children Protection Orphanage, children of the blind, destitute aged people and abandoned children in Freetown and Emergency Support to Triplets were among groups that benefited from the donation.

Among the items donated were second hand clothing and first aid kits, emergency baby foods, diaper blankets amongst others.

Also, the Freetown City Council disbursed to Network for Children Protection Orphanage the sum of Le. 500,000; Le 40,000 each to twenty destitute mothers.

Abandoned children in Freetown also got Le. 1,400,000 (One million four hundred leones)

In his statement, Mayor Herbert George Williams said council and the ministry of social welfare have a very good working relationship together. He pointed out that they were making the difference in lots of areas particularly in social welfare issues.

Mr. George Williams pledged councils commitment to increasingly do more for all its citizens.

At the handing over ceremonies to the various beneficiaries, the Gender Ministry was ably represented by its protocol officer, Mrs. Mariatu Bangura.

In a separate development, the Freetown City Council has purchased 10 (ten) high powered motor bikes for revenue collection, valuation of properties and publicity.

To further capacitate council workers, the Mayor pledged more commitment to building their capacities, including the delivery of effective and efficient service to the citizenry of the municipality.
