Windfall for 35 orphans in Kenema

A German charity, Fambu Tik Ful Die Benachtekigten has reportedly donated food stuffs and educational materials to about thirty-five orphaned school going children in the eastern headquarter city of Kenema. The beneficiaries were mostly those that lost their parents during the rebel war. The donation ceremony was reportedly held at the Holy Trinity School Hall, Blama Road. The charity has as objectives assistance to the underprivileged, especially children lacking some major opportunities to go to school.

ADB Meets with MOHS

The visiting African Development Bank (ADB) Task Manager, Fabrice Sergen is said to have had an interactive session with officials of the Health and Sanitation Ministry and Executives implementing the ADB Strengthening District Health Services Project. According to reports, the session was focused on the challenges and current status of the projects in Bonthe, Bo, Kenema, Portloko and Tonkolili districts. The Manager reportedly described the project as a community programme and that its pride would be its positive implementation by the Ministry and the government.

Minister Condemns Sexual Exploitation

Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Dr. Lansana Nyallay is said to have condemned sexual exploitation and corporal punishment in all schools. He is reported as saying that education is one of the priorities of the APC government. He reportedly stressed on the need to heighten the campaign against sexual exploitation for national development and for peaceful educational atmosphere. He underscored governments commitment to supporting the campaign as he strongly condemned violence of any sort in our schools.

Political Parties Given Ultimatum

The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) has reportedly given an ultimatum to all political parties to submit lists of assets, liabilities, income and expenditure for the past 2008 local government elections. PPRC acting chair, Roland Ade Ceasar is reported as saying that the exercise is in line with powers conferred upon them by an Act of Parliament to set a time line for the declaration of assets, liabilities, income and expenditure of all political parties and their candidates.

FCC to Recruit More Metropolitan Police

Reports say the Freetown City Council is to recruit more metropolitan officers to add to the existing ones. This will be the second batch of recruits into the metropolitan force, after the first one early this year in decades. Sixty more men and women will reportedly be trained to augment the first batch. The Metropolitan Police Supt. is quoted as saying that the council needs more personnel to cover activities in the municipality. As usual the requirement for Officer Cadets is five O levels or WASSCE including English Language; and five Passes in BECE for constables.

Bo City to Get Pure Water Factory

A local water company, Good Life Water Company is to embark on multi-filtered purification water project in the southern city of Bo, reports say. With a vast experience in water processing, the proprietor, Chris Jones is reported to have said that they are determined to produce clean portable water with all the required ingredients with quality purification methods. His target is said to be borne out of the high demand for clean water in that part of the country.
