In collaboration with Dance 4 Life, Students Partnership Worldwide (SPW) on Saturday 29th November 2008 hosted a programme code named "Big Event." The auspicious event held at the Family Kingdom in Freetown attracted hundreds of students from over 60 schools all over the country. The event was aimed at inspiring the entire world population to institute a real change in relation to the issue of HIV/AIDS.

In his welcome address, SPWs Country Director, Edward Francis said the recruitment of young people to serve as agents of change by educating colleagues and other awareness programmes will help reduce Aids in the world. "Through the use of artists and music, young people will get inspired and be on the alert to launch a battle against aids as they are the most vulnerable people in the world," he pointed out.

Deputy Director of National Aids Secretariat, Mr. Abdul Rahman Sesay expressed thanks and appreciation to both organizers of the programme and the participants. "The disease is taking an upward trend with young people mostly affected," he said, while calling on all, especially the participating students, to join forces together to kick the disease out of the country.

UNAIDS National Programme Officer, Mr. Bockarie Samba expressed happiness over the turnout of pupils from all over the country. He added that such indicates the level of commitment among the pupils towards the eradication of the disease in the country. "Countries in the Sub-Saharan of Africa had recorded the highest number of prevalence of the disease," he disclosed, stating that the disease has been the greatest enemy of the human race and development. He urged participants to either abstain from sex or use condoms, while assuring of his organizations continued support and commitment towards the fight against the deadly disease.

Several activities, including musical performances, dramas and reading of poems form part of the programme.
