Rokel Commercial Bank, formerly Barclays Bank on Friday 28th November 2008 launched a mobile Banking Unit (MDU) for customers resident at Waterloo and Tombo in the western rural district. The ceremony took place at the Tombo VIP Relaxation Center.

At the launch, the Managing Director of the bank, Henry Akie Macauley thanked the community for their hospitality, and called on them to make good use of the facility extended to them. "The aim of this unit is to reduce the constraint of our customers from struggling in long traffic to reach the Freetown Headquarters to transact their businesses," he disclosed.

The MD informed that the mobile banking unit will be installed in two Land Rover vehicles, one for each village with competent staff to promptly attend to customers banking needs in their respective villages.

"The Land Rovers will be visiting these villages twice weekly," he stated.

Mr. Macauley also enlightened customers on the banks facilities such as the Automated Teller Machines (ATM), high interest savings, Rokel Money Transfer, traveling services, safe custody customers foreign currency account, instant cash from cheques and borrowing money. He said the bank does not charge excess interest rates like the others do.

"Our interest rate ranges between 20 to 21% which is most times negotiable", the MD ended.

Welcoming the initiative, the councilor for Ward 340, Constituency 94 Amos Kalokoh congratulated the banks management for what he called "an immense contribution to development in our community." He took the opportunity to call on his people to open bank accounts with Rokel Commercial Bank and free themselves from worries about the safety of their monies. He also called on management to assist them with the establishment of a permanent banking structure in Tombo.
