BRITISH CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS

Applications are now invited from suitably qualified candidates for the 2009/2010 British Chevening scholarship awards. These awards are for up to 12 months study on a taught postgraduate course at a UK higher education institution for the academic year commencing in September 2010.

The aim of the scheme, which is funded by the British government, is to contribute to the political, economic and social development of Sierra Leone. It is designed to benefit the countrys future leaders, thinkers and opinion formers.

Application will only be considered from young professionals who meet all these criteria:

Have an upper-second or first-class degree
Are aged between 30-45
Can demonstrate outstanding achievement in their field
Can demonstrate the potential to make positive impact on the future of Sierra Leone.

Priority will be given to the following subject areas:

Public administration (e.g energy sector, communications, privatization, utilities)
Good governance including security & access to justice
Business administration/economics
Environmental studies
Law
Information and communications technologies/telecommunications

The above list serves as a guide. Exceptional candidates from other fields may also be considered. Funding is not available for Ph.D. programmes.

Preliminary application forms can be obtained from the British Council, Tower Hill, Freetown.

Completed applications should be returned to the British Council office latest 15 December 2008
