RSLAF Faces Defeat in Martial Arts in Sierra Leone

The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Martial Arts Club suffered a major defeat in the hands of Praetorian Security Guards side at the Atlantic Hall, National Stadium in Freetown last Saturday, 29th November 2008.

The competition which started at around 6:30pm with some karate and kick-boxing demonstrations by both groups featured three ties: Team Kumite (Team fight), Weight categories and Team and Individual Kata.

Praetorian Guard defeated RSLAF 15-4 in the team fight which constituted the highest percentage score.

In the weight categories, RSLAF defeated Praetorian Guards 2-1.

RSLAF won the team kata, while the individual kata went to Praetorian Guard contestant, Alpha Kabba.

Delivering a brief statement at the end of the battle, the Principal Sports Director, Mr. Sesay expressed satisfaction over both groups performances in the competition. He encouraged them to be dedicated in their training and continue to engage in such a competition in order to improve their skills for international encounters.

The competition was sponsored by the Managing Director of Praetorian Guard, Mr. Wayne Shoyer. He too expressed his impression with both teams performances. "Really, the showdown was entertaining. Both groups performed impressively. The competition was a friendly one and it is designed to eye mark the talents of the fighters for international assignments as we hope to stage similar competitions with Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and other countries," he said.

Sierra Leone Association of Martial Arts (SLAMA) Treasurer, Sensei Oness said he was happy with both teams out put. "I am very much impressed, and I also commend RSLAF for showing up in the competition," he said.

Secretary General of SLAMA, Kolorie Dumbuya said both groups put up impressive performances. "This is all about competition, you either win or loss. I extend my congratulations to the winning team. To the loosing side, I say good luck in future competitions," he ended.
