The presence of personnel of the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has been increased at the Bumbuna Hydro Electric Project site. This development followed persistent reports of theft of cables and other important materials meant for the completion of the project.

This was disclosed to the press by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of operations, AIG Richard Moigbeh past Thursday at the weekly Ministry of Information press briefing at their 8th floor Conference Room, Youyi Building in Freetown. He said since security at Bumbuna project site and the Western Area Water catchment areas remain a national concern, they could not sit by to allow unscrupulous individuals to derail the process. "That is why the president has instructed both the police and RSLAF to provide security in those areas," he said. He said they decided to involve the Army because of the level of pylon and cable thefts within the catchments. He added that the youth and chiefs are helping the officers in the discharge of duty.

The minister of Information and communication Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo noted that the issue of theft at the Bumbuna site has become a problem as even the previous government was frustrated by this unholy act. "But this time around, government is determined to finish Bumbuna, and no one can stand in the way," he angrily stated.
