In their poise to expand banking business in the country, Ecobank over the weekend opened a new branch at Waterloo in the western rural suburb of Freetown.

In his statement to formally declare the branch open, the chairman of ceremony, Hon. Claude Kandeh lauded the initiative by Ecobank. According to him, since he was elected into parliament, he had written several letters to various business institutions, including banking houses to come and establish branches in that community, being a strategic location linking the city and the provinces.

He was therefore pleased that Ecobank has responded to their demands with the establishment of a banking outlet to serve his people. He was particularly grateful to the banks management for such a humane consideration as that community lacked facilities of that nature. "This move will no doubt bring more development to our constituency," he related, whilst admonishing his people to make good use of the facility. He assured management of his continued support to the bank.

The Waterloo Branch Managing Director, Karen Akiwumi-Taloh said they have now being in operation for two years in Sierra Leone, with 12 branches. He disclosed that the bank is established in twenty-six African countries. She said their primary aim is to offer quality service to their customers. She also spoke of credit facilities that would be provided by the bank, in addition to salary advances, personal and educational loans, among others.
