President Ernest Bai Koroma on the evening of Wednesday 10th December 2008 disclosed in Freetown that the revitalization process of the Mano River Union (MRU) has been initiated. He made this statement at the State House Lawn during the State Banquette he hosted in honor of Heads of State and Government of the MRU.

He stated that the summit has been a tasking but successful meet, whilst congratulating stakeholders for successfully stirring the summit.

In her short but precise statement, Her Excellency the President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf thanked colleague heads of states and other stakeholders for richly contributing to the dialogue and final decisions. She expressed particular thanks to President Ernest Bai Koroma to have agreed to host the summit. "As chair of the MRU, it should have been my responsibility and that of Liberia to host such summit," she disclosed, adding that she suggested the hosting to the summit in Sierra Leone since the unions secretariat is situated here, among other reasons. "I thank you very much brother Ernest for doing this," President Johnson Sirleaf maintained.

The Guinean Prime Minister also delivered a short statement.

The Ivorian President, Laurent Gbagbo, was absent at the Banquette since he had some other pressing issues to attend to at his country, but was represented by his Foreign Affairs Minister.

In attendance include, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Madam Sia Nyama Koroma, wife of the Vice President, Kadia Sam Sumana, Government Ministers, Parliamentarians, members of the judiciary and a host of international dignitaries.
