CAUSE Canada-Sierra Leone, in partnership with Canada International Development Agency (CIDA) on Tuesday 16th December 2008 organized a one-day certification ceremony for more than 300 adult education graduands on Kabala Secondary School Campus, Koinadugu District.

The auspicious ceremony was graced by many education and community stakeholders including Councillor Haja Bintu Mansaray, the host Principal Mr. John D. Sesay, CAUSE Canada Country Director, Mr. Arthur Cummings and other Canadian representatives.

The programme with Women Integral Empowerment as theme targeted three chiefdoms in that district.

In his opening remarks, the chairman of occasion, Principal Sesay thanked CAUSE Canada for their timely intervention. He disclosed that women in that part of the country have been deprived of education for many years, saying "the implementation of the project is to enable their illiterate adults to read and write." He therefore urged beneficiaries to properly utilize what they have acquired in order to motivate donors to extend their tentacles to help the remaining chiefdoms in the district.

On her part, the Project Supervisor, Anita Yamba gave a brief background of the project. She disclosed that CAUSE Canada partnered with Canadian International Development Agency in 2007 that culminated in the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of Women Integral Empowerment program in the district. She said the project aims at health, financial management, leadership, decision making, human and womens rights and environmental sustainability.

Within the training, participants were divided into three components covering basic literacy, leadership skills, business development, savings and loan systems.

CAUSE Canada Country Director said the main objectives of the project are to improve the quality and standard of people living in marginalized communities in Central America and West Africa.

Leader of beneficiary group, Madam Sayo Jalloh commended CAUSE Canada for their frantic effort in ameliorating their condition. She disclosed that even though she did not darken the wall of a class room, she was happy that she could now read and write.
