Freetown Celebrates Christmas Peacefully

Residents of Freetown and its environs this year celebrated the Christmas (Birth of Christ) holiday in a splendid, laudable and peaceful manner. Same was also reported to have been the situation in the entire country, including the provinces. Our investigations indicate that both the Christmas and Boxing Day holidays respectively witnessed no major incidence of violence nor theft, as it used to be in the past. Police sources also told this medium that there was no occurrence of murder or drowning in the beach areas in the entire festivities of this year. Mask devils, outing to the beaches, night jam splashes and various forms of street carnivals form part of this years celebrations.

Although the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) was unable to tackle the traffic congestion in the city as promised, backed by the failure of the ruling All Peoples Congress government to adequately address the countrys food crisis hullabaloo, the police must be lauded for a wonderful job well done in administering a violence free celebration. The crowd controlling strategies used by the police were very effective and laudable as they mingled themselves among the street rallying populace. The presence of the police was visible at the front, back and center of every parade in the city. Thumbs up SLP! We hope that this laudable mark continues throughout the festivities. On the other hand, the citizenry also deserve rounds of applauds for achieving the intended objective of what Christmas celebrations are all about. Most of the celebrating populace this press interviewed raised concerns on issues that has to do with the deplorable food crisis in the country among others, but they were also very happy for the peace and electricity supply the country is presently enjoying.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Awareness Times Newspaper, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, who was in London on an official visit, jet into the country on the Eve of Christmas to celebrate her holiday.

Wish you all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
