Yenga oh Yenga!

Yenga oh Yenga
Nestled in the horn of Sierra Leone
In the Kissi-Teng chiefdom, Kailahun district
With strategic thumb-like tentacles touching foreign neighbours
Who for long have had designs on you.
Your continued separation from the motherland
daily evokes consternation and heartbreak among your countrymen. Yenga oh Yenga
the yoke of your continued occupation since 1998,
belies the deception not only of your occupiers
but of your own leaders.
Under the guise of providing for your protection
they invited a foreign force who alas had nefarious designs on you.
Your leaders complicity in this continued occupation,
Oh Yenga, not only baffles your compatriots
but their lack of transparency and
business as usual attitude with your occupiers
Evokes our collective outrage.
They do business, dine, dance and play with your occupier
And act as though you don’t exist.
Their frequent sojourns to and cavorting with the enemy,
providing her with comfort further emboldens her;
even in his death your leaders like supplicants
trooped to and lavished praises at
the enemy leader of your occupation. Yenga oh Yenga
The architect of your occupation,
led ironically by Kailahun’s favourite
party and sons
Were inept in ensuring a withdrawal
and lifting the yolk of your occupation
at war’s end in 2002.
With naivety and diplomatic blunders,
Despite repeated agreements by the occupiers
to relinquish their hold,
Your leaders continue to fail going on two scores.Yenga oh Yenga
Your compatriots demand
Our leaders view your occupation
as an occupation of our entire country
And move with lightening speed to end
the cosy relations with the occupiers and
redress your pain.
