Commercial sex workers in Kenema are reported to be working in close collaboration with criminal gangs in the township to distress the lives of peaceful citizens at night.

According to reliable sources, most cases of criminal activities perpetuated in the township are done in connivance with prostitutes, who are said to be acting as spies.

Most times, according to sources, prostitutes line up the streets at various strategic locations to attract men and once they succeed, they network with criminals to make away with valuables owned by their unsuspecting victims.

Speaking to the Regional Media Director East, Prince Kamara, he disclosed that the police have launched a war against sex-workers in the township in an attempt to checkmate the spate of thieving taking place there.

He said the number of patrol teams has been increased so as to effectively take care of the situation.

Mr. Prince Kamara also stated that the police have realized that the various stand points used by sex-workers have suddenly become breeding grounds for most criminal activities taking place in Kenema, noting that "Most cases of theft are reported from those points".

He said the police are working very hard to ensure that the situation is put under perfect control soonest.

A man who begged for annoying had to say this "At one time my clothes were stolen by their male counterpart when I was having sex with one".

In the words of Ansu Lahai, a student at the Eastern Polytechnic in Kenema, "Anybody who goes around Show Field at night must be a notorious criminal, as the place has virtually become a no-go area at night". Lahai said he pities those who are resident in that particular area, where he said criminal activities are at their highest.

Residents in the said area have heaped blame on the police, saying they are either unprepared to clamp down on the criminals, or are simply conniving with them, as is reported in other parts of the country particularly in Freetown.
