At the Magistrate Court No. 1 presided over by Magistrate Steven Conteh, on Tuesday 3rd February 2009, the sister of the Late Mohamed Juana who lost his life reportedly during an initiation rite performed by the Island Social Club at FBC, testified against the students standing trial in respect of the matter.

Fatmata Juana was marked as PW1.

Leading her in evidence, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Robin Mason, asked whether she knew any of the suspects, and her answer was no.

She however recalled that on 21st December 2008, she received a call from an unknown caller informing her that her brother, now deceased, was with him, as he was afraid to go home.

At about 9:00pm that same day, she told the court that she went home and was asked by their mother whether she had any idea about the whereabouts of her brother.

According to her, she told her mother that she received a call earlier on that day from an unknown caller, telling her that her brother was with him.

She continued by stating that they flashed the cell phone number of the unanimous caller.

The unanimous caller she went on, returned the call and informed them that and he was on his way to the Thompson Bay Field, which is about fifty yards from their home.

She said they rushed to the place together with an uncle, and were terrified to see the deceased on the back of an unknown man, apparently the one who had been calling.

Her uncle, she went on, assisted the unknown man by carrying the deceased on his own back.

As they were rushing to the hospital, they noticed that the unknown man had disappeared, leaving them with no option but to take the deceased home. At about 9:30pm, the deceased became very wick, and was given a mixture of Oral Rehydration Salt (ORS), by their mother.

It was at this juncture that the DPP asked for a weeks adjournment, but lawyer Leo Jenkins Johnson representing the accused persons, objected that the matter has taken too long without any progress and should therefore not be adjourned for mere adjournment sake.

The presiding Magistrate however overruled him and the matter subsequently adjourned to Thursday 5th February 2009 for further hearing.
