PRESS RELEASE

PHILIP NEVILLE FILES FRESH SUITS AGAINST SLAJ

Freetown: The SLAJ Secretariat wishes to inform the General Membership and the Public that barely few days after his case against the Chairperson of SLAJ in the Northern Region and his colleague was technically thrown out of a Magistrate Court in Freetown on the grounds that there is a competent court in the Bombali judicial district to deal with the matter, the former Acting President of the Association Mr. Philip Neville has filed fresh suits against the same people.

According to a Notice from the Makeni Magistrates Office, Mr Stanley Bangura and his colleague Mohamed Kabba are to appear in the Makeni Magistrates Court on Thursday this week at the suit of Philip Neville. An appearance has also been entered for the two in the Civil Division of the Freetown High Court where another writ has been filed by Mr Neville against them relating to the same matter.

Among other things, the High Court writ contains request for a permanent injunction restraining the defendants from interfering with or entering upon the premises of the Defendants [the SLAJ Northern Region Secretariat] whether by themselves, workmen, agents or privies or howsoever described.

Representing Mr Neville are Messrs Jenkins Johnston & Co. of Ayodele Chambers in Freetown, while Mr. Stanley Bangura and his colleague are being defended by M. S Turay & Associates of the Spancho Chambers at Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown.

SLAJ wishes to reiterate that these recent court actions are being taken by Mr Neville, after his attempts to convert the Northern Region SLAJ office in Makeni into his private property after losing the SLAJ Presidential election late last year was met with stiff resistance from the Northern Region Executive.

The Association also wishes to reaffirm that it will not relent in its struggle to ensure that the Northern Region Executive regain full control over the office which was rented for and in their name last year. The Association therefore wishes to use this opportunity to urge its membership nationwide to continue to support its cause.

Meanwhile, to demonstrate its commitment, the SLAJ National Executive has already hired a vehicle to convey a reasonable number of its members to Makeni to witness the Thursday hearing.

Mustapha Sesay
National Secretary General
