Manso Dumbuya Declares for SLPP Chair

Popular politician, Manso Bangura, also referred to as the Ambassador of Peace, yesterday at a press conference held at the head office of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), declared his intention to vie for the Western Area Chairmanship of the party.

Declaring his intention, Mr. Manso A. Dumbuya expressed profound gratitude to the National Executive Council of the party and other stakeholders both at home and abroad, whose commitment and efforts he said, helped the party gained considerable seats in the House of Parliament in the last general elections.

He said with regret that the Western Area under the incumbent Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Kalil Cole, shows a sharp decline in the membership base of the party, as evident in the All Peoples Congress (APC) clearing all the parliamentary seats.

"Since we are all concerned about the present status of our party in the Western Area, I am before you, to offer myself for a job that requires a committed, trustworthy, dynamic and fearless personality that has the capability to preach the right message that will win the support of our opponents", Mr. Dumbuya said determinedly.

He said the popularity of the party is growing everyday, and therefore implored colleague members to be determined more than ever before to put the party on a sound footing ahead of the 2012 general elections.

The SLPP, Mr. Manso Dumbuya went on, has become more attractive to critics who had earlier opposed all the good things the party did for the country.

Looking at the future of the party with optimism, Mr. Dumbuya said "Mr. Chairman, now that our focus is to take back from the Ojukokoros at all cost, what was stolen from us after the 2007 Parliamentary and Presidential Elections, I hereby respectfully declare my intent to contest for the Western Region SLPP Chairmanship position at the forthcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for Kenema on the 6th and 7th March, 2009.

He appealed to delegates to back his candidature, assuring that when he becomes chairman of the party in the Western Area, he will "endeavour to put in motion a well motivated machinery that will lead the party into victory come 2012". His declaration sanctions a stiff competition between him and Lansana Fadika, who had earlier vested interest in the same position.
