First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Madam Sia Nyama Koroma, on Sunday 15th February 2009 addressed a mammoth gathering of supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC) at the compound of Late Paramount Chief Goba in Mattru Jong Bonthe District.

First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma

She used the forum as an opportunity to admonish her audience about the need to be tolerant in their interaction with people who are supporters of other political parties, with the view to develop Mattru Jong.

Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma reiterated that "development can’t take place in an atmosphere of insecurity", adding that the best method to woo peoples’ support over to the APC is through tolerance.

The First Lady disclosed that she was in Mattru Jong to assess the constraints of the people with the view to assist especially women whom she described as the bread winners of many homes in Mattru Jong.

Against this background, she pledged her continued association with the locals in a bid to reducing the difficulties they are contending with.

Some of these difficulties she said include improper health care delivery, poor infrastructure, poor water and sanitation and inadequate means to transport their agricultural produce from place to place.

She called on all APC supporters to remain peaceful and forge ahead positively with the development initiatives of the leadership of the party.

Earlier, the Secretary General of the APC Women’s Wing in Mattru Jong, Madam Konneh, thanked the First Lady for the visit and assured her of their unflinching support to the development initiatives contained in her Wish Project.

Highlighting their needs, she noted that there immediate priorities include an office space, micro credit scheme and transport facilities to enhance free movement of persons and goods.
