A Shining Example of Corporate Social Responsibility in Sierra Leone

The article written by the CEO of Comium did not come as a surprise to me. They are presently number 3 (out of 5 operators) in the market and are fast losing ground. Therefore such an action by him is as a result of his frustration.

The Editor of New Citizen interviewing the Africell Chief Commercial Officer

We have a very sacred mission to the people of Sierra Leone. Our mission is to have a very strong sense of Corporate Social Responsibility by contributing positively in many areas for the development of the Country. These areas include education, health, assistance to less privileged groups, community development and beautification projects. However our greatest contribution has been in the area of sports especially football in order to strengthen both our domestic teams in the Premier League and also the National Team. We believe that our support of sports will provide opportunities to the youth in developing their skills, thereby increasing their chances of having a successful career in sports.

We do what we do because we believe in Corporate Social Responsibility. We believe in giving back to the people and we believe in contributing significantly to the development of the Country. We are not involved in the development of sports in order to secure huge branding opportunities as Comium has done with the National Stadium. Comium has contributed nothing to the development of football in Sierra Leone yet they have branded the main bowl of the National stadium with their name and colour. This situation does not augur well for Sierra Leone football and threatens to undo all the good work towards football in the past.

Africell is a leading example in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility having undertaken a number of projects and having carried out a number of promotions amounting to millions of dollars for the benefit of Sierra Leoneans and in an effort to create a better Sierra Leone.

That being said, Africell however maintains the right to take whatever action it deems fit in order to put an end to these lies, aspersions and negative remarks against the Company.

I would like to assure you that Africell will continue to maintain a strong sense of Corporate Social Responsibility and will continue to contribute significantly in the area of sports, especially football.
